a.j.z Posted August 2, 2021 Share #15811 Posted August 2, 2021 (edited) This is Oradour-sur-Glane It was destroyed by the Nazis in 1944 and almost all inhabitants were killed. Charles de Gaulle decided to leave it in its destroyed state as memorial: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oradour-sur-Glane_massacre As for the car: Citroen? Rona!d Posted August 2, 2021 Share #15812 Posted August 2, 2021 Indeed it is. Location of a Nazi massacre. The Peugeot 202 of Doctor Desourteaux.
NigelG Posted August 2, 2021 Share #15813 Posted August 2, 2021 By a bizarre coincidence (or sneaky algorithms) almost exactly this image popped-up when I visited the BBC news website 5 minutes ago - as the placeholder image for a video report on “Why are we so fascinated by ghost towns?...spooky. Not sure if THIS is a good example for "fascinating" ghost towns. I wouldn´t even choose Chernobyl.

wlaidlaw Posted August 2, 2021 Share #15816 Posted August 2, 2021 Access to Oradour sur Glane is very limited, so there is only one place to take photos of, hence every one's photo looks pretty much the same. I visited when meeting friends for lunch in the nearby Limoges, when I had a house in south Burgundy in 2003. You can see that the grass is greener on my photo, after a very wet early autumn. This poor weather continued all through my rental of the converted water mill, culminating in it being flooded to a depth of over a metre, at which point I decided not to take up the offer to buy and looked further south and not alongside a river. When I saw the BBC article today, I remembered visiting there and looked out a photo taken with my Digilux 4.3. Ronald is correct, the Peugeot 202 of Doctor Desourteaux. A very sad episode, as it resulted from a collaborator member of the French Milice, giving false information about a kidnapped SS officer, just to make himself look good. Some French websites claim this is not actually the Peugeot 202 of Doctor Desourteaux but a similar car, burnt out just to make it look genuine but really, does it matter? Over to Ronald again. Rona!d Posted August 2, 2021 Share #15817 Posted August 2, 2021 Yes, heard the same doubts it´s the original car, but who cares? Wilson, always a good idea to check offers near rivers and visit the places in bad weather times before you holiday properties. Here comes a more or less modern car compared to the 202. As always maker and model. Exact year of made not needed. Next time something more vintage again 😉 Welcome, dear visitor! Rona!d Posted August 4, 2021 Share #15818 Posted August 4, 2021 Nobody? It´s a serial made car from a known maker, not a one-off.

Rona!d Posted August 4, 2021 Share #15820 Posted August 4, 2021 vor 2 Stunden schrieb Ralf1960Mono: Could be a Porsche Speedster 1989? Good guess but it is not. I think the design of the speedster humps was influenced by it as the riddle car came some years later. Remember a boring (hundreds of km) highway rain drive with a new narrow body Speedster in 89 to a motorshow.
