Craigr:  About the time I was trying to come up with an email handle, I had two KTM's.  I think that was about 15 years ago.  I presently have an 08 BMW GSA with 85000 miles and a 2011 Kawasaki 650 with 15000 miles.  Both bikes are in storage in St Louis while I have been traveling.  I am giving serious thought to picking up one of the bikes in May, throwing camping gear on the back and exploring North America.  But I am kind of bored with the GSA so giving lots of thought to a late model RT.

By the way, I have ridden from Mexico to Alaska three times but want to explore the NE US and Canada.

As I said above, I was in Guatemala about seven years ago trying to learn Spanish.  I had the original version of the X100 as well as an M2.  There was a young woman from NYC in the Spanish school in 'Xela and I was stunned when she pulled a 'Bald 500C/M out of her bag.  I noticed she was not traveling with a meter so I offered.  We swapped film cameras for a day (I had owned a Blad) but she had never used a Leica.  She fell in love with the M2 and wrote me later that she had purchased one from B&H on returning home.

And I worked as a journalist for a few years out of college(Indiana University 1975) but became a pilot in the Marines and spent the next 34 years flying for USMC and US Customs.  I have several friends who shoot or shot for NatGeo (Melissa Farlow and Randy Olsen) as well as a couple that were photo editors for the Washington POST (I think).  I spent a lot of time in DC after 9/11 flying airspace security missions out of Reagan in 2002-2004.

I retired from the government 12 years ago (mandatory at 55 in law enforcement).  My guess is they don't want old guys carrying guns but I took an FAA physical every 6 months.  At 66 I have rediscovered scuba diving in the Philippines and SE Asia.

If you like the M2 with a 35, you will love the X100F.  New ones are going around $1000 but this is the fourth version of the camera and earlier ones can be had for $250 or less.  I hate to say this on a Leica forum but it beats anything Leica makes both in value for the dollar and technology.  It uses a between the lens shutter so synchs at all speeds.  M10 does not even come close.  I shoot jpegs mostly as I hate playing on a computer.

Wow! - even more in common...  I've got a few years on ya (turning 73 yesterday) but was a Naval Aviator in the '60s and 70s. After playing with Phantoms & Tomcats for the most part I did the corporate thing for some years until it just got too tedious. My late-to-the-game reporting and shooting career was split between moto-journo (MotoGP/WSBK) and military for the Military Times group on the Pentagon/Capitol Hill/White House circuit. As I mentioned, I'm now happily retired peddling Beemers part-time.

I will definitely explore the acquisition of an X100F. I'm enjoying picture taking more than ever now -- especially with no deadlines and editors to answer to.

Both are beautiful examples.  It is still my favorite film Leica body primarily because of the viewfinder with only one frame line.  I have a '58 chrome button rewind so very simple.  And honestly I can use lenses from 28-135 except for 75mm.  What more does one need?

I'm going to have to join in, took my recently purchased M2 out to the woods to run a test film through her today.

I now only have the M2, having sold my digital M, and I must say it was an absolute pleasure to use the M2. Here she is glimmering in the low December sunlight...

I recently 'inherited' a M2 from a cousin of my wife who lived in Montana. He bought it in 1958 when stationed in West Germany with the U.S. military. I brought the camera with me on a trip to Wetzlar last fall and 'showed it' its place of birth some 62 years ago.

Unfortunately I didn't do zone focussing on my phone (if possible) so the old factory is blurry.

It is just hidden for the public. Repainted? Come on ......😎

It looks repainted... not saying it is, but it just look less glossy than most black paint bodies/lenses. And I would expect at least some brassing.

Well, I should never have sold my original M2 that I had. I do have a lovely M3 which I will never sell and I wanted something to shoot 35mm with and I couldn't stretch to an M6 at the moment or even an Mp (dream camera) soooooooo....

You already have your dream camera! A beautiful and solid M3, very reliable camera. Have fun with it.

Interesting, More info please 😇

Due to lack of use really. I can't justify having it sat around to shoot a handful of rolls per year which is a massive shame because I LOVE the format, I just can't realise it's cinematic potential. It is boxed with 45mm, 90mm, centre filter and all instructions, lens bubbles and paperwork. There's some paint flaking on the body as is expected with these but that's all. :)

I have the X-Pan with the three lenses. Every now and then I give thought to selling but all it takes is a look at some of the images and I realise I would be crazy to do so.

I think you'll regret selling it.

Same here, sold my Xpan kit only to buy another one a couple of years later ...

I have no doubts I will have regrets, but financially I have to put the cash back in the savings that I used for the M2. The most important thing is to make photos, so I think I am ok with the decision....for now. :)
