New Leica M11 Firmware v.2.6.0 (M11 / M11-P / M11-D / M11 Monochrom)

Recommended Posts

First of all, please note that in Lightroom the numbers for Temp and Tint one gets from the camera are different for Adobe and Leica M11 profiles in Lightroom. But for all profiles the manual Adobe Daylight setting is 5500 / 10.

With my M11-P set to Daylight WB, before WB correction I got the following numbers in LrC:

with Leica M11 profile: 5350 / 22; with one of the Adobe profiles: 5150 / 23

Applying WB correction with the values proposed by Don Daniel (dx = -5, dy = 15):

with Leica M11 profile: 5450 / 11; with one of the Adobe profiles: 5250 / 14.

For my eyes too a sensible adjustment which I will use from now on.

Make 15 clicks from magenta towards green and 5 clicks from blue to yellow. Magenta cast is gone then.

Do you keep this setting for all profiles or do you set this only for a certain profile like landscape ant not for portrait?

I am so happy to have this feature! While I didn’t adjust the warmth yet I went straight to +15g after install and my dng were in a much better shape!

I’ll give Don Daniel’s  settings a try today; thanks for sharing them.

I hope Leica brings this to the rest of their lineup, I would love +5 / +10 warmth on my q3 Leica chrome jpgs!

I saved the adjusted settings in my single profile that I use. I photograph different subjects but always start from the same profile. Making the necessary adjustments with an M takes just seconds.
When you watch Jono’s and Siggi’s review of the new M-EV1, you notice: There are reviewers who apparently like the magenta cast. Jono clearly has a different color perception than I do. He also saturates portraits as heavily as I would only do for landscape shots. But with this new white balance adjustment capability, the M11 has become even more the camera that lets us implement our personal style. And yes, it would be good if the Q and SL got this feature too. Then you could match the color tuning when operating different Leica systems.

Probably because of the skin tones. The M11 white balance fits that use case.

And Jono speaks German now. Great 🤪

Please do not beat me if I am wrong.

Just warning everyone that this 2.6.0 firmware update completely bricked my M11. I've owned the M11 since the beginning, did every update successfully, but this one bricked it. After performing the update through my iPhone, the camera started displaying error messages I had never seen before. It also took photos that I couldn't view (photo briefly showed in preview after shutter action then disappeared). Then my camera displayed 0% battery even though the battery was fully charged. Now it doesn't turn on at all, even if I remove and replace the battery, or with a different fully charged battery. I'm sending my M11 to Leica for repair.

The only funny part is I did this update to finally solve the freezing issues (no, they were never fixed in any previous update), only to get my camera bricked.

Oh look at the guy with a fancy charger..! Not just having to plug his entire camera in whilst charging. 😳

Hi there, I have NEVER, with any camera that is capable, charged the battery IN CAMERA. My practice has always been to charge using an external battery charger. Happy to be considered over the top on this, my reasoning is that batteries charging have known to become hot and especially if there is an issue. I’m not having that heat threat in camera. Never say never. (I also do not leave any lithium battery on charge overnight as further precaution)

I am sorry to hear that and I hope you resolve the issue.

I make a point of doing all upgrades with an SD card. Leica stipulate that the battery needs to be fully charged - this tells me the upgrade cannot be under threat of an interruption and so I will not risk using Leica Fotos - apps can crash, for this reason. A Wi-Fi/communication dropout would also interrupt the process.

All upgrades have been without issue for me.

Just a thought.

I’d prefer not to.

My M11 came with the charger

My black M11-P came with the charger

My M11-P Safari……did not come with the charger.

That’ll be an extra $300 for a charger please sir.

Ouch. Is the M11-P and Safari a different type charger to M11?

No. Identical. I don’t think any of them come with chargers now.

Also they now come in boring brown boxes and feel as luxurious as a box of tissues.

I think that is great. I also don't understand why the box has to be so big, with all these unnecessary drawers inside. The M6 re-issue has a box that's of a more traditional size. I once bought a used M3 and brought it home in a brown paper bag, did not bother me at all 🙂
