to the people still experiencing freezes/corrupt files after 2.1.1: can you tell me what was the build date of your camera?

I just bought a mint used M11-P with fairly recent build date of 12/23. The seller says it's upgraded to 2.1.1 and he has never experienced issues with the approximately 600 shots taken with it.

Even as someone who just experienced a freeze, I would advise you to take a deep breath and not obsess over the current state of the M11. These issues have nothing to do with build date, as has been established in the main long-running thread about M11 freezes that this thread seems to have taken the place of for now.

The problem with your situation is you took a huge risk by buying used instead of new. A reputable new Leica dealer would exchange your new M11-P purchase if you had issues.

Are you still able to back out of your purchase? If not, I see no reason to worry across more than one forum about potential issues you haven’t even had yet.

May 2022. No freezes between fw 1.6.1 and 2.1.1. Current freezes are minor. Fix by half press shutter release.

My late posting after about 2000 pictures with this firmware. Still freezes now and then. I'm back shooting in 3sec 😎

But yes not how it's suppose to be, lets hope further improvements. With this firmware it seems like it's working, I can see numbers in finder etc but nothing happens when I press the shutter. Just quick release to battery and push it back in and shooting continues. Thankfully my unit does not loose images like my SL3 did.

So, I was getting freezes still after the latest firmware update.  I made sure now to reset the camera, reset all profiles, everything back to factory. I formatted my memory cards on my Mac (using the ExFat format) and then formatted them in camera. Since doing this I haven't had any freezes and I shot a lot over the holiday weekend.

This procedure has fixed many issues on many different electronic devices I've owned over the years, not just the M11.  I don't do it automatically, but if something flakey happens after a firmware update it it one of the first things I try.  It often works.   Last week I factory reset a WiFi router.  It was a minor pain re-configuring everything, but less of a pain than the constant checking if the internet was down or my router needed a reset.  Yes, it fixed the issue.

I have reset the camera to factory settings and reformat card and internal memory…what else can I do ?

1. Try only using the internal memory; see if all issues disappear.

2. Return the camera to your dealer for a full refund. or, if you really want an M11*, get them to replace it until you get one that is issue-free.

What I do not understand is how some people make hundreds of pictures without issues and I have them each time ??

Reading through dozens and dozens of "issues" or "no issues" posts suggests that newer bodies have fewer or no issues, but that evidence collation is in my head, not in a spreadsheet. I'm not sure I've read a convincing report of camera setting circumstances that reliably lead to freezes in the users's camera and, importantly, are repeatable on other bodies. Have read a lot of conjecture and issue reporting.

Perhaps there's something to certain SD cards causing issues, so don't use one and see if using the IN memory only causes issues to go away.

Right on cue, a no-freeze anecdotal report (wait until they have extensively used the camera themselves), although I'm hopeful for them as it turns out my M11-P has the same 12/23 box date, and I've put thousands of exposures through mine without a single freeze or upside-down images. I am using multiple 6-bit coded lenses (28 Voigtlander Ultron coded by myself as 28 Cron, 28 Lux (current), 35 Lux (current), 50 Lux (current), 90 AA Cron(current)). IN and SD memory in use almost always, in varying configurations.

My camera (arriving today, yay!) already has 2.1.1 installed. If I do a factory reset, it won't change the current firmware, correct?

No reset does not affect the FW version, only the settings.

It was unblocked after taking out the battery and wait maybe half minute.

I now suspect it is something to do with the sleep/wake-up or shutdown/startup process.

In any case the last 3 times I took my M11P camera to walk it froze.

My camera is totally new and I have done less than 100 pictures.

What can I say ? I regret my M10, I’m sad and angry on the people that messed this rollout.

I hope heads will roll at Leica responsible team, or the external subcontractor to be sunk by penalties.

Sorry for this post…

Get an upcoming Pixii Max full frame rangefinder that accepts M mount lenses. Half the price of an M11 and I’d be willing to bet much more reliable at that.

APS-C sensor, no LCD, some users are already reporting "strange" problems. I'd wait a while.

Its actually full frame (the new one), strange problems were presented with the first iteration of the product, and in leica world a camera with no lcd actually costs more than one with it :) So here you pay less and actually get no lcd....

Both my M11-P and M11-M continue to experience freezes after the latest firmware. Either shutter actuates but then nothing happens or shutter does not actuate at all. Sometimes just black screen. Taking out the battery and putting it back in solves the problem for a while. Some pictures got corrupted. Also the leica fotos app keeps disconnecting while transfering photos. This happens quite a lot. I hope they fix both issues soon because otherwise both cameras are fantastic.

Sunday 7th of July - 345 shots : no issues

Saturday 13th of July - 136 shots: one issue - freeze/antifreeze (thaw?)

Took some shots when (as usual) all of sudden the camera became unresponsive (freeze) when I pressed the shutter button.

Switching Power-Off/On didn't help and the red LED stayed on.

Considering what to do next, camera was switch on, I decided to wait a bit.

And amazingly after perhaps 2 minutes or so, the red LED turned off and the camera became responsive again !

How about that ?

This is a known one. I had that one too.

First problem since installing new firmware on M11 Mono.  Not a freeze, just massive over exposure, complete white out.  Happened without warning after taking about 20 exposures, all of which were fine, then one over exposure.  Took another photo, same result, then another same result.  Switched camera off and on again, and all back to normal.

This is more of a problem than freezing.  At least you know it's happened with freezing because you can't take another photo.  With over exposure, you won't know unless you check live view after every shot.  Disappointing.

How long have you had the camera for? It’s been reported on and off for ages it seems. I had none for the first 3,000 shots on my M11P and then from when I upgraded firmware got it every now and then on both M11M and M11P. Not sure if it’s a random event or worsened by the firmware. It’s going to make the M11D exciting!

Purchased December 2023.  I had one freeze in February on the previous firmware, but no problems since.  Over exposure seems to be rare.  I recall @colint544 reporting it but I think that was on the M11, not 11 Mono.  Don't know how many exposures I've taken, probably < 1,000, so not a regular occurrence but one is one too many!

I have been thinking about trading my M10R when (if) the M11D breaks cover, but why exchange a perfectly good and trouble free camera for something that may (or may not) be problematic.  The M10R is a black paint model so another good reason to keep it 🙂

T25UFO,   Your M10-R black paint is only going up in value.  I wouldn't even think about selling it and certainly not for another M11 variant.  Just my opinion.  r/ Mark
