Nothing new here. Here is a page from the M5 instructions manual.

Is this really your experience? 

[In my M10 with 47 MP when I go to 100% to check for instance focus, the details are often washed and absorbed in noise sometimes even well below 2500A. The lighting temp is the reason of course.]

Tolerance of noise is probably a personal thing. Unless pixel peeping, I find 5000 perfectly ok, especially for black and white but if you zoom in you can see a fair amount of noise. Above that, not really unless it’s needed to get the shot. Running the dng through DxO PureRaw solves the problem though - the software is transformative.
