Three(III)-phase power connections? Skimpy bathing suits? I'm not sure if this is exactly correct, the nick name high leg should be after the thicker silver mount part, and in Hong Kong, the 50 summicrons are count as v1, collapsable v2, rigid v3, high leg v4, no special name for this one v5, the latest model till now 1
Advertisement Posted February 6, 2023 Posted February 6, 2023 Hi efour, Take a look here Let's discuss Summicron 50mm f2 V3 (high leg), and some of my previous 50mm. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
lct Posted February 6, 2023 Share #42 Posted February 6, 2023 The early Summicron 50/2 v4 was called "tiger paw" because of the shape of its focus tab so what is the origin of "high leg" in Hong Kong or elsewhere?

Due to this focus lever these lenses were called 'tiger claw' types.

Icic, since I sometime see v4 with normal type focus tab, also heard some people call it tiger paw, just didn't realise that is its nickname. grahamc Posted February 7, 2023 Share #45 Posted February 7, 2023 I love how this v3 renders. for me, the perfect cron would be the rendering of the v3 but the quicker/shorter focus throw of the v4. I'm finding the longer throw a little slow (or maybe I'm the slow one) for some things. but lovely for others !

dustinvu Posted June 30, 2023 Share #55 Posted June 30, 2023 Yeah, I don't find much problem with this lens. I got it recently and can only find that the focus ring is a little stiff (probably needs the dampening grease renewed). It makes a pretty picture nonetheless. Welcome, dear visitor! The optical head unscrews easily from the focusing mount, and then it isn't a bad job to clean and relube the action. I did this maybe 10 years ago (bought the lens in 1969). TomB_tx Posted July 17, 2023 Share #59 Posted July 17, 2023 I used a light helical grease (S-10) from Micro-Tools - a good source for camera repair tools and supplies.

By the way, I had the 'detachable head' version ll all my film years. It was great. Specially the background was nice soft with a very easy plain of focus. But I sent my V back to Solms, and now its got many more qualities of a sudden: Welcome, dear visitor!
