That’s a lovely image, the colours are superb. Edited September 19, 2022 by Mr.Prime

With all due respect, I prefer to wait for some formal confirmation from Leica. (Not that it's going to make any difference for me.) I heard it was going to be an M7.3 with 1/3000 shutter.

The M6, on the used market, hovered around the £600 mark for at least 20 years. At that time you could get an M2/M3/M4 for a little less. Then sometime after about 2017, the prices rocketed. But the M6 price rocketed a lot more than for the classic Wetzlar non-metered bodies. You'd be lucky to get a clean, boxed M6 for less than £2500 now. An M2/M3/M4 in silver chrome goes for a bit more than £1000. I think the reasons for the crazy price of an M6 now are two-fold. 1) It has a meter, and 2) It has been hugely hyped online, mostly on YouTube. The blogger called Grainydays - who I think is brilliant - played no small part in this. Some of these YouTubers have massive followings. But also, the M6 just looks nice. The design is less fussy and old-fashioned than the earlier M cameras, and it's very smart with the Leitz/Leica red dot. It's also much newer. I think if you're new to film photography, you might just find yourself wanting an M6 more than the other models. Me, I think the M2 is a better camera, but that counts for nothing. So I'm sure Leica must have noticed what has been happening on the used market. After all, the used market is one of Leica's competitors. What will they do, how can you redesign/cheapen/market a 'new' film M body? Will they use magnesium instead of brass for the top plate? Will it have the red dot (I think yes)? Will they give it a larger shutter speed dial like the digital versions? Is there nothing in the works, and this is merely a rumour? It's puzzling and, I suspect, a reason why there is so much speculation. Thanks for Grainydays, Colin. I must admit (again) to an itch for a film camera, but a recent search for colour negative film stock drew a blank. Is this a normal occurrence these days?
FilmSpiel Posted September 19, 2022 Share #347 Posted September 19, 2022 Advertisement (gone after registration) I‘m sorry that all doesnt make sense to me. And it would be the First time since years (summarits) that Leica will sell a budget product. but anyways. I told my camera store to get on a black list, in case something like that exists for a new analog modell 😀

And constant rumors that Fuji's getting out of the film game. But Kodak is producing film as fast as it can. I hear there are supply problems in the UK, but in the US color film is selling like gangbusters, actually.
Jeremy Bunting Posted September 19, 2022 Share #349 Posted September 19, 2022 I just purchased a Leica M2 to compliment my M11. I'm assuming the new film model will cost many times what the M2 cost me ($1400 w/ recent CLA by YYe), so hopefully the fomo won't be too severe. It's my first film camera, so I can't justify a huge spend so soon after the M11. Did I make a mistake?

Congratulations! When I still shot digital also, I'd carry both cameras and use the M10 as sort of a spotting scope (or what LF photographers did with Polaroid): I'd take a bunch of digital photos to get the lay of the land, and then shoot more deliberately with my film camera.

Learn to develop B&W at home and read about scanning. There’s a lot of methods but starting out, you could find a used Plustek 8100 for not much money and be set. You may find the M11 sits on the shelf.

His obsession with Edward Hopper really shows through, and his enthusiasm is infectious. Plus he's very funny. Where are you searching for film? I get mine either from my local Snappy Snaps, or online at Wex Photo Video. They're both often out of stock, and constantly back ordered, but I just keep checking. You don't usually need to wait too long.

Mike Rawcs Posted September 19, 2022 Share #354 Posted September 19, 2022 Thanks Colin (love your photography btw) and Bags27 for the film advice. I'll keep watching Wex. Good to hear that film is so popular, both here and the U.S.

Not sure of your location, but in the US it is available at many places. The problem is there are a couple of really big retails stores (one called B&H) who often are out of stock and it seems some people only shop there. So if they see it out of stock there, they end their search!
1joel1 Posted September 19, 2022 Share #356 Posted September 19, 2022 The only update to film M cameras that I would like to see is a variable diopter.
