As for megapixels, 47.3 mp is adequate for most applications; I could live with a 60 mp BSI sensor like the M11 has.  Beyond 60 mp seems pointless, given that the majority of photographers these days no longer make prints.

Let's hope that Leica is smart enough to not get sucked into the "mine's bigger than yours" contest that other camera makers insist on playing.

Gotta admit, I got a laugh out of this :)

I've been selling photo gear since the '80's.  I remember when '8 mp is adequate for most applications'.  A year later '12 mp is adequate for most applications'.

I'm personally happy with my Q and it's paltry 24 mp...but people be people...we always want bigger and better :)

The Q is literally the only Leica platform that makes sense for 60+mp since cropping to emulate longer focal lengths is now part of the Q DNA. It’s useful.

I would happily take a Q3 with the M11 sensor if I could have the SL2-S sensor in my M11.

Don't get me wrong...I'd like better as well.  With my Q I will use the 35mm crop...the 50mm, at only 8mp I use very seldom.

But like computers I just find it funny...everytime I've upgraded a computer it seems so much faster and more capable than my last...two years later I'm cursing how slow it is :)

I agree. I traded in my SL2 for the SL2-S, yet I would happily take a Q3 with around 100mp, as long as it had the image resizing tech of the M11. Ideally, the Q3 should have a setting allowing you to take each image at 24mp, determined by the crop choice (i.e. 24mp at 28mm, 24mp at 75mm).

Well, I didn't sell mine - Leica reclaimed it after the testing period.

I've lived without one for 3 years, but recently bought the reporter, and I'm really happy with it.

Lovely versatile camera

Hi, I often think about q2 or q3 when it arrives.  I have a Leica MD and love the colors that come straight out of a camera.  It's just so beautiful.  But AF and what comes with Q could be lovely.  But not at the expense of the fantastic colors 3D pop.  (and I don't want to color process all images) - how are the colors in Q2 reporter compared to M28 summilux and M11?  I often lack better low light with my MD and I have to admit that a screen, built-in memory etc appeals to me.  But so does the summilux M28 😍.. and a M11

kind regard

That’s a very interesting concept.  The first time I’ve read something new and innovative that might persuade me to sell everything and buy a Q3.  Well, almost everything, I’d still keep the M10R and 35mm APO!

I've been wrestling big time with selling my Q2, to fund an SL2-S (or SL2-S Reporter if the rumours are true). Note I have an SL601 and a few non Leica lenses already.

I've had it listed for sale then removed it, had it all boxed up and put away, only to watch YouTube videos and read comments on here, and also viewing the amazing images on the Images thread, and then I get it out again and use it.

Maybe I'm just not ready to let go????

What are everyone else's experiences?

I sold it twice and bought it again. Don't sell it. There is nothing like it, unless you like carrying much heavier/larger gear around with no practical gain in image quality within 28-50mm range.

I don't have the Q2 but I do have the Q-P.

I bought it as the Q2 was released and I use it all the time. I decided to skip the Q2 and will buy the Q3 if it has features that I like. Or a Q-P2 if they aren't useful to me. Hard to believe it's been 3 years or more now.

The only way I'd sell the Q-P is if they release a Q-P2 and I didn't like the features of the Q3. I love the design, feel, manual focusing and file quality. I think a Q3 + Q-P would be good!

My Q2 only has about 1000 shots on it and the Q3 would have to be something special for me to upgrade.  Having a fixed lens is somewhat limiting, but I have an M10-R when I need a different focal length.  If I ever decided to make a change to an SL2 I'd trade the M10-R before the Q2, but that's not likely to happen anytime soon.

Its really interesting reading all the comments, especially folk that are waiting for the Q3.

I love the simplicity of my Q2, genius menu system , just the perfect (IMO) number of buttons and a beautiful lens, that I can focus manually if I want to. Add to that the macro and the fact I can crop. Just perfect.

I’m also into the history, the build quality and the fact I don’t have to decide which lens to take with me.

I totally get that people want more ‘stuff’ on the Q3, of course that’s progress, but could the Q3 move from being a Leica, to Leica’s attempt to grab some of the mass market?

Waiting for the Q3, for me, is the sensible choice. I’m happy with the Q-P so I’m not in a rush. If I wait for the Q3 (probably a year away) I’ll be able to make an informed decision as to whether I should go with it, if the features are worth the full asking price. Or, buy a Q2 for a bit less than it is today.

I sold my original Q a few years back, thinked the M-System would be enough, but couldn’t get the Q out of my head, so bought a Q2RM a while ago… won’t sell it. Maybe add a Q2 Colour or a Q3 in the future.

For me it was a mistake to sell the original Q and I won’t make this mistake again (hopefully…) 😂

I was worried about the same thing. It’s an expensive camera for me (my 2nd expensive is a 1600$ Nikon z)

since I got the q2. Have used to it shoot macros. Kids. Watches. Landscape. Dogs. Random objects. It’s surprising super versatile. The Nikon gets a bit… hardly used!

and yes. Only reason I would sell it is it get a q3. Or maybe not 😂😂
