Advertisement Posted May 7, 2022 Posted May 7, 2022 Hi beewee, Take a look here Big Firmware Update for Leica SL2 (v.4.0) and SL2-S (v.3.0). I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
LocalHero1953 Posted May 7, 2022 Share #82  Posted May 7, 2022 The other oddity was that almost all the lens upgrades took quite a while - I didn't count, but tens of seconds. The 18-56 upgrade happened almost instantly - it was so different that I mounted it again in case it didn't 'take' first time round, but it didn't try to update again.

All my SL lenses took probably over a minute to update. I wasn’t expecting such a long process since previous updates were much faster and I was starting to wonder if the update was broken. After you connect to the camera and it shows you the screen of photos on the camera, you can disconnect from the camera. This shuts down the WiFi connection keeps the bluetooth connection going and location updates is sent via bluetooth. no, this happend some month after introducing the SL2 - I remember the beta test for this feature. But FW 4 gives us much improvements: they introduced a caching mechanism for GPS, very useful.
Stuart Richardson Posted May 7, 2022 Share #85 Â Posted May 7, 2022 (edited) So what is the overall take? It seems like this update has bricked several lenses and seems to not really be running well. I think I will probably wait a bit and see if they do a 4.1, or do you all think that is a fool's errand? P.S. Can anyone who successfully updated tell me if they fixed the multishot interface I had asked about in the firmware requests. Basically that the large warning does not come up instantly as soon as you slightly move the camera, and stay up until you have stopped? I guess that since no one has mentioned it, they have not allowed this warning to be turned off or adjusted... Hardly 'bricked' - just one unexpected camera body reset, not (in my case) repeated. The lens update time was as I expected for all lenses (and was the same with previous updates). My surprise was how short the update was for the 16-35SL zoom. No, they haven't fixed the multishot interface. The warning still stops you doing anything practical until the camera is still. Stuart Richardson Posted May 7, 2022 Share #87  Posted May 7, 2022 Advertisement (gone after registration) Thanks! The bricked was not in reference to you. I think two people (more?) said they got a lens communication error after upgrading, didn’t they? And that the lenses were no longer usable?

OTOH they all seem to have happened during lens updates, and none seem to be permanent. Edit. And they should not have happened! I've upgrade my SL2-S a few times, incl. beta software. I never experienced any issue. That's what I think one should do: get a fresh fully-loaded battery attach a SL lens reformat a SD card in the camera, the card can contain camera files form recent shoots. But it must be a camera-reformatted card If the copy lock is enabled, disable it copy the previously downloaded SL2-S30_.lfu file to that SD card (don't put it in a folder, it should sit on top) safe your user profiles by exporting them (they'll end up on the SD card next to the SL2-S30_.lfu file) now follow the instructions wait patiently, the update will take longer than you might anticipate when prompted on the screen, restart you camera. Be patient you'll be asked to connect to Fotos. You can skip that for later load your profiles restart the camera again. Don't let it go asleep, you might lose your profiles. you camera will ask you for updating the lens. Let it proceed wait patiently restart again and you are set
Stuart Richardson Posted May 7, 2022 Share #90  Posted May 7, 2022 I think I am probably conflating this thread and the lens communication error thread. But here I saw that Gavin Cato had a problem and another user. Not sure if they are permanent though.

Yeath Posted May 7, 2022 Share #92  Posted May 7, 2022 good improvements but still no self-timer settings. we go straight from 2s to 12s. it would be nice to be able to adjust the time..perhaps next update…

Bernd-B Posted May 7, 2022 Share #96  Posted May 7, 2022 I have now done the update as well on my SL2 and mounted all of my L-Lenses afterwards. The SL 24-90, 90-280 and the Summicron-SL 50 got their lens firmware updates as well. What I found a bit strange was that the SL2 reseted itself to factory settings after each lens firmware update. So, don't format your SD card with the user settings after importing it during the first reset. 😉 You will it a couple of times. What I found really strange was that the SL2 reseted itself to factory settings when I mounted my Sigma 1.4/85 DG DN for the first time. It did not get a firmware update ... Has anybody an idea what Leica means with the improved support of L-Mount lenses? I had hoped that e.g. the AF-stop button on the Sigma 1.4/85 DG DN would get any function, but I haven't found any way to get it work so far. The new depth-of-field preview works perfectly, exactly what I was looking for for landscape work from a tripod. Best regards Bernd
Mike1974 Posted May 7, 2022 Share #97  Posted May 7, 2022 (edited) In my experience after the update I put my 24-70 and the camera freezed only the red light near the screen blinked .  I had to turn of and on the SL2 and take out the battery and put back in .  after the lens got updated but the fotos app didn’t work - I had to erase the cameras in my app and chose them again . That’s my experience for the moment . Edited May 7, 2022 by Mike1974

I updated the SL2-S with the second card slot with a card in it - no problems. I saved my user profiles to card before starting the update (both manually and when prompted by the update process). Reloading the profiles gave me all my settings back. I have put all my lenses on the camera (three zooms, 35, 75 & 90) with no issues - updates for all lenses went through. NB I restarted the camera with the updated lens on after each update - I didn't restart the camera with a different lens. However, my SL2-S DID do its own factory reset sometime shortly after I had done the original body firmware update - I think it was just after the first lens update (24-90). It hasn't happened since, and I have updated all my other lenses since then, switching the camera on and off without any recurrence. I still had my profiles on the SD card, so recovering from the factory reset was not a problem. I shall make sure I keep them stored on my laptop just in case it happens again. Looks like the factory reset fault is quite common - time will tell if it is a one-off. From participating in betas, I've done a lot of firmware updates. Like Paul, I leave the second card in and just add the firmware update file to the current chip without erasing, saving profiles before the update and restoring them after. In the past, there have been problems with a firmware update dropping some information that should have been in the profile (such as the first letter of the DNGs' file names or copyright tags) and each update starting a new file folder, incrementing all the file numbers. These seem to be fixed now. Keeping BlueTooth off during a firmware update seems like a good idea. Can you turn it back on in a profile as part of setting the camera up to get GPS input?
beewee Posted May 7, 2022 Share #99  Posted May 7, 2022 I forgot to mention one oddity regarding the second reset that followed the lens update on my 24-90. When I initially updated the SL2-S firmware to v3.0, it reset all settings which was expected and I restored the settings using the exported profile on my SD card. After the 24-90 lens firmware update, the unexpected reset on the camera seemed more like a partial reset. It nuked my imported profiles but left the saved FOTOs app connection on the camera and I wasn’t able to pair with my iPhone FOTOs app until I realized that the old profile was still there and deleted the old profile. This is in contrast with the first rest after the camera firmware update where my old FOTOs profile was removed and I had a completely empty list of saved connections on the camera.
msendin Posted May 7, 2022 Share #100  Posted May 7, 2022 Any new idea of what "Additional function support for L mount alliance lenses" is? I have checked Panasonic Web and there is no firmware upgrade for the S lenses and I imagine Leica firmware wont upgrade Panasonic lenses. Will it result in even less compatibility with non Leica L mounts?
