[humor]  Due to the global economic "slump," (yeah, that's what we'll call it) these are hard times for Leica.  Effective Jan. 1, 2023, the new pricing strategy will be as follows:
M10:  $10,000
M11:  $11,000
M12:  $12,000
M13:  $13,000
And so on.

Fortunately for corporations and governments around the globe, the rest of us are apparently thought to be immune to the effects of the global economic "slump."  [/humor]

And lenses?

Thanks for the inside info, I called my Leica dealer to put me on the waiting list.

21mm:  $21,000
28mm:  $28,000
35mm:  $35,000
50mm:  $50,000
75mm:  $75,000
...and so on.  For Summilux lenses, multiply the above by a factor of 1.5; for Noctilux lenses, 2.0 and for APO lenses, multiply the above by a factor of 2.5.

As a gesture of goodwill, the official Leica branded replacement lens caps will be reduced in price to $5.00 each to soften the blow of the new price structure.

Maybe the features of the Leica M11 with still more dynamic range and colour fidelity + Possibility to make movies (like with the M240, but better 4K unlimited time). Still a Rangefinder but with electronic support (electronic range finder spot on, with possibility to enlarge the rangefinder patch). IBIS would also be a nice feature. Then of course you add a very nice EVF (same performance as in SL2) to allow the use of tele or vario lenses.

To me this would still be a true Leica.

What do you think?

A true Leica does not make movies, IMHO.

No IBIS.  No OIS. No Problem.

There is a third option, albeit perhaps not quite as convenient. Viola... err... Voila!

Strap on this gimbal and it will take the stealthiness of the M11 or 12 to, uuuh, "new levels."

When I was a kid, we had a neighbor lady named Viola.  She didn't have IBIS or OIS.

Those were graceless, uncivilized times.

Oh yeah? Well when I was at the Conservatory, I had a classmate who played viola.  She didn't have IBIS or OIS either, but boy could she tremolo! 😀

Following a great example of @Al Brown, let's start a thread for the next one right away.

The starting topic will be this: M11 is a pretty radical departure from M10, which is a peak evolution of the full-frame digital M that started with M9.

M11 does not have an internal EVF/OVF combo, nor IBIS.  These are clearly two possible directions for the M to expand to.

M11 still does not have video.  However, the Maestro III processor and live view stabilization indicates that the processing power is there.  Could it be added later via firmware, left to M12, or left out of the M line for good?  For those of us with kids, taking one camera on a trip, video would be a great option to have.

What else do you think will come in M12 that is not in M11 but worth waiting for?

I think that product cycles have become way too short. Not only does it cost me a lot of money (I am a victim of marketing and a tech geek), but it is also a waste of resources.

I like my M11, but in the end I should just have used the M9 until it died one day and not upgrade each generation.

I now sometimes feel I am more a gear discusser than a photographer. I guess its called GAS.

So probaly I also will end up with an M12 one day. Instant startup, clean ISO 25600, fully integrated internet, IBIS and whatever.

I think that you made everything fully correct. The M11 has the best sensor from all the digital Ms. Its light meetering and its colour rendering are just great. I imagine that it reached a level that is so high that you can stay with it for many years. This is unlike all its predecessors. To me its a bit like the iPad or iPhone: An new model brings me zero benefit. The products are so great.

The reality is Leica needs to be thinking of the future while keeping a lot of us happy with the status quo.  For me the rangefinder is simple and elegant.  Yet, as I get older IBIS would be nice.  And a lot of M users are in the same boat.  How does Leica continue the M line as the majority of its users are aging?  If I make it to 85 I would love to still be using M lenses on a rangefinder.  As I age how many new M’s will I buy?  Leica is thinking about that.   The other thing Leica needs to figure out is how to attract more younger users to the M otherwise its future is limited.  Does 3mm really mean that much?

There are various image processing methodologies capable of restoring a lot of damage to an image from camera shake. Clearly, they are not yet competitive with IBIS or else everyone would be using them but that may change one day.

Image processing will jump ahead a LOT over the next many years, what that means for the M is anybody's guess but it will surely change the engineering tradeoffs for what goes into a camera and what you can expect out of a camera. Film emulation will become good enough to kill film for people who tend to be on the fence.

I bet 60 million pixels would still be more than enough for daily use in 20 years from now.

If more folks were interested only in prints, I might agree... or suggest that we've already shot well past overkill... but as that's not the case, I'm not so sure.  While not commonplace today we've already seen commercially available 16k displays (15360 x 8640).  Thats nearly 133 MPx just to fill the screen at 1:1.  Two decades on who knows where will be in terms of common display resolutions.  OTOH, I think we can assume any number of processing advancements which likely will make our current cameras at least viable well into the future.  Good news for me is that its highly likely that 20 years on I wont care one way or the other.

I have a few things I'd actually like in the M12. Same as M11 with....

Instant startup.

Faster read out sensor to enable silent shooting.

16bit capture for improved DR and file pliability.

Better EVF add on (5 million dots minimum and 1.0x) with integrated GPS and focus confirmation ala Nikon Zf.

Black Paint on brass option.

EFCS (how is this not already a thing?????)

A new version of the MATE.
