I have the same problem, my Leica II needs service as well.

Camera Clinic is still servicing Leica. I think they now trade as "Imaging by Design". You could ask them but I doubt that they will service LTM Leicas.

I asked Vic Plant in Altona recently, he does not service LTM Leicas. Jorg Heumuller has moved his workshop from Heidelberg West to Wetzlar, Germany. I am not aware of any other option in Melbourne. I might be wrong, but I think at this moment only overseas options remain to get an LTM Leica serviced.

I rang Imaging by Design

They can repair all Leica photographic equipment. They accept walk ins. There’s a cost to quote the repair that’s then deducted should one go ahead with repair at the end.

for other brands she suggested people always ring first as they don’t have the same volume of Techs anymore so can’t do all brands.

yay! I’ll be taking it for CLA and hopefully get lens fixed. Will update this once done.

Now I know why I havn't had a response from Camera Clinic - sent them an email last week to see if they could work on my Alpa 7 & other LTMs. They had done some nice work for me previously (I'm in Brisbane).

When you search for Imaging By Design & click on the link you actually go to the Camera Clinic site

I think everyone is a bit confused about what Camera Clinic stopped doing and what Imaging by Design do now. For us. Leica is still being repaired and they accept repairs from the public. That’s all we need to know ;)

Thanks for that mmanda.

I was worried we'd not have a competent Leica camera specialist left in Australia.

I know we are a small country; but I like to think we still count.

...

PS I was at the Leica Challenge in 2017 in Melbourne...a fun few days..during which we had a meet at Camera Clinic... organised by Erl (John). The Company showed their commitment to Leica.

It is time for these guys to go global. They have been training people as camera techs who have returned to their own country to work and I know a dealer in the US who was talking about sending someone on their course or going himself. The older techs are not getting any younger and this applies everywhere.

At the top end, Leitz Auction are training some very young guys in Vienna, one of whom had been trained as a watch technician. I have met him in Wetzlar on a couple of occasions. Ottmar Michaely in Wetzlar, who has worked on some of the really expensive items sold at auction, including No 105, has sold his workshop to Leitz Auction and is training the young guys in Vienna.

There is a business opportunity there as old cameras are now more popular than they ever were.

Just checked the camerarescue world list - there are a few camera techs listed there that I've never heard of ie Vintech camera service    https://www.facebook.com/VintechCameraService/

Also there's Jorg Heumuller in Heidelberg West, Melbourne (not in the above list) - anyone here used him previously

thanks for the info - mustn't have seen that previously - I just sent him an email prior to seeing your post. So, is Jorg working for Leica?

According to his home page, he moved his workshop to a village close to Wetzlar. Does not sound like he will be working for Leica, at least not as an employee.

Jorg replied to my email

Hi Stephen,

Yes I have moved back to Asslar / Wetzlar. I used to be in Melbourne.

A couple of pages back (#109, January '22) I posted about my newly acquired RD ST iiif and red scale elmar.  Since then I've enjoyed using the camera regularly and have put several rolls of film through it.  My interest in older Barnacks has been piqued.  I've been looking around at earlier cameras for a while and a couple of days ago I found an 'Oskar Barnack' 1879-2004 prototype 2 replica offered by a trusted dealer.

A huge box arrived yesterday which was so big I wasn't sure what was being delivered!  When I opened the outer box, I was surprised to find my 'new' Barnack  inside in it's original equally huge presentation box with the camera, leather case, film trimming template, book, dvd, manuals and certificates as originally supplied, all seemingly untouched apart from the fact there was a half-exposed roll of FP4+ still in the camera!

I'm not a collector, I'm a photographer, so I'm not sure how these 'reissues' are perceived by collectors but I have to say this little camera is exquisite!  The quality of workmanship and materials are very nice indeed. It's a beautiful object and I can understand the appeal for collectors of early Barnacks.

I spent a few minutes with the manual to get my head around some of the less familiar operational quirks, especially with setting the shutter 'speed'. Then I put a roll of Tmax 100 in it and went for a walk along one of our local beaches.

Of course, I made the classic mistake of forgetting to cap the lens after exposing the first frame.  Fortunately, I realised my mistake as I was winding on to the second frame and have so far avoided making the same mistake again.  After a few frames the method of operation became a logical routine (there's nothing difficult about it) and I'm hoping to finish the roll of TMax 100 later today.

I don’t see any place to share pictures of Barnack cameras, so thought of creating this thread. All Barnack users, please share your Barnack love here!

Here’s my Leica III from 1936 converted in-factor to a IIIf by Leica in the 50s, with an Elmar 35mm f3.5 & FOOKH hood. The viewfinder is Voigtlander’s 28/35.

Love this combo! Below is a pic of the camera and a pic taken with this kit!

Some recent images from my 1932 Leica II and numbers matching Elmar 50mm f/3.5 collapsible.  All shot on Ilford PanF, pulled one stop to iso 25, developed in Ilford DDX (1+4) for 7 minutes.  I decided to see how it was to shoot with 1932 technology, including film speed.
