What are the use cases when you'd prefer the linear focusing over, um, the non-linear one?:)

much better for video work... adnt he abitlity to choose from 90 degree to 360 and beyond is great.

I like using the linear focusing now available on the SL 24-90, the 90-280, and the SL APO primes, because I enjoy full manual shooting. When I use my SL2, I therefore like to be able to bring the scene into focus, as Gordon wrote, "without the focus moving at different rates just because I move the ring at a different speed." Sometimes I shoot directly after I "manually" focus; other times I use back-button autofocus to ensure that I am dialed in.

I hope this is useful. And I'm still hoping that the next SL2 firmware update extends the linear focusing option to the SL 16-35 Vario and the SL 1.4 prime.

Is there a way to choose which mode? Or is it linear by default now? I dont normally use manual but I've popped on the 24-90 just to test it and it doesnt feel linear to me.

you need to update the lens firmware. after that you can fo inside the focus menu of the camera and pick the setting to do that.

Anyone know when the V3 is available...21st now and still cannot find it

I've sent two emails to Leica in Germany asking for a simple update for all the SL2 users, since the SL2-S update was announced well in advance with details etc., and that update has been available for a while and the CL was updated a few weeks ago. No response at all...

Here is a link to the SL lens firmware update, which I received from Josh at the Leica Store Miami:

https://us.leica-camera.com/content/download/196932/5259036/version/6/file/SLLens03.plf

And these are the instructions:

https://us.leica-camera.com/content/download/173732/4708244/version/1/file/L-Mount-Lens_FW-Update-en.pdf

As Photoworks said, once you update the lens firmware, the Focusing menu will have MF Setup highlighted. Click on that and you will find a menu of focus draws ranging (at least for my 24-90) from 90 to 360 degrees. Choose the one you want and that's it.

I get 404 errors for both links. Anyone else?

My SL2 + Leica M to L adapter is not picking up the 6 bit encoding on my 1.2/50 Nocti (re-issued). Unrecognized lens.
Can anyone confirm this will be added in the firmware update we are all waiting on?

Send an email to Customer.Care@leica-camera.com, and you should get an answer within a few days (based on my experience).
