I'm just afraid they will never do it, because it would be admitting the Play-button is useless where it is. It seems to me a relict of the times of the optical viewfinder, because with an EVF I never have to lower the camera to look at the LCD to replay my shots (which is also very handy, as my short distance eyesight has weakened with age). So this means: all the buttons that I have to press with my left hand, require me to let go of the lens and interrupt shooting (or being ready to shoot again). This all sounds very pedantic, but if one thinks it through, the Play-button will soon be on the right side of the camera, or at least assignable to a desired button of my choice.
Advertisement Posted March 21, 2020 Posted March 21, 2020 Hi fahrenhyde, Take a look here SL2 firmware update request. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
HeinzX Posted March 21, 2020 Share #142  Posted March 21, 2020 (edited) I wonder when the update of the firmware will come. In the meantime 4 months have passed, and not even an announcement has been made, although i.e. the HIRES mode has been promised for the next and hopefully soon coming firmware at this time. Just a few days ago I have asked m well known dealer if he knows something about. He answered with a part of a text of a song as  a joke - will come tomorrow - but tomorrow never comes ... Let us hope, that in near future we will get an update with useful things - even if all wishes cannot be fulfilled with the first one. At least Leica should give an information, when we can expect one app. Edited March 21, 2020 by HeinzX
scott kirkpatrick Posted March 21, 2020 Share #143  Posted March 21, 2020 Leica sent almost all of its customer-facing people home for isolation/mitigation. They haven't said anything about impact on development work, but I would expect a further delay. Remember hi-res, Geolocation over the BlueTooth channel and adjustable-rate linear focusing were all planned for this release, before getting to the user requests. Probably it is already remote, with much of the work farmed out to contractors. So individual contributions (fresh code) might not be affected. But how about the stages where meetings are needed, like resolving the sources of problems, and completing exhaustive testing in order not to release firmware in which new bugs outnumber the fixes? It can be done on Zoom, but not as well as in a room with a lot of whiteboard space. MarkP Posted March 23, 2020 Share #146 Â Posted March 23, 2020 I really want the option of virtual horizon and histogram together. I'm not infrequently flicking between the two. Beyond me why it's not an option.

It is an option.  They are called "info profiles" in the manual. Go to Camera settings/capture assistants/ and you can inspect all four of them. Then goto settings and you can add or subtract features to each, or even eliminate some. You cycle through the profiles with the FN button, as the camera is usually set up (although that can be moved to another button if desired). Jeff S Posted March 25, 2020 Share #148  Posted March 25, 2020 Exactly.  I added this functionality to my top front button in order to cycle info options using my shooting hand.  I duplicated these on the rear FN button to facilitate vertical shooting. My frustration is that the. EVF doesn’t like to engage in vertical orientation using my prescription sunglasses, which I need in daylight.  My glasses are not polarized, but work better with the EVF in horizontal shooting mode. I’m having to set the EVF to ‘always on’ for vertical shooting, which takes time and eats battery life.  Jeff

Stefanovt Posted March 28, 2020 Share #151  Posted March 28, 2020 The previous SL offered the possibility to use a Log profile while filming in 120fps and the SL2 was supposed to offer the same. Unfortunately this is not available, making the 180fps almost useless; the videostyle offered do not offer a difference in style in my camera. The STD, VIV and NAT are éxactly the same. So not even a flat profile is available when not filming on Log.  This is a problem as the dynamic range in STD is very low. Highlights blow out or darks are without any information.  Who is experiencing the same or thinks this will be solved in a future firmware?

simonoz Posted April 12, 2020 Share #153  Posted April 12, 2020 I recently got my SL2 and absolutely love it but I'd love to see some of the following improve with the first firmware update. Improvement of power consumption, improvement of the auto white balance and improvement of AF. I also would like the ability to re-arrange the order of profiles I've created from 1-6 and be able to put 'default' at the end or disable it.

My regular glasses work fine, but my sunglasses, which I require for light sensitivity, do not.  I bought high quality non-polarized glass lenses, but those don’t help, possibly due to the deep tint. I’ve resorted to full time EVF (with 30 sec off), and carry extra batteries. Jeff

Jeff Interesting - there must be something about the character of my regular glasses that does not register.  I have never had this problem with my Sony cameras.  I wonder what the sensing mechanism is?  I am hopeful that they can improve the sensitivity in firmware. This shouldnt be a big problem, right? Just add it to the list of assignable functions .. Try selecting Auto Review>Shutter Pressed...IMO the best way to review images. After pressing the shutter release, simply hold it down. Image review remains until you release. No need to push any buttons.
