After a lot of problems, having to generate a new password and where their system would not allow the Apple auto generated randomised password (includes upper, lower case letters and digits), to be used, so I had to use a less secure password, I finally managed to re-sign on to my Leica Camera account today. I  see that Leica have finally got round to screwing up "Your products in view", where they have deleted most of the photos. How difficult would it have been to transfer the photos across to the new website - not very but they obviously could not be bothered. All in tune with charging for software to use our exceeding expensive Leica equipment.

I hope the next person to see a senior executive at Leica will make the apparent displeasure and disappointment of L-C members (from reading this thread) wholly apparent to Leica. What were they thinking of!

What is the added value of the pro version ?  If it is only the connection to LR, should that not be included with a 6000$ product ?   (Is this clever marketing ?)

Not sure it's clever, sly perhaps!

On the EU app store there is no update as well, but if you go to Leica.com and search « fotos » you ll see a link to version 2.0.

OK . . . so what am I doing wrong?

I have installed Fotos 2.0 and updated my Leica account password.  It connects to my Q2 and I see the photos on my iPhone 6s, but when I try to take another photo I just see a message on the Q2 screen which says:  "Disconnect Wi-Fi in the camera?"  If I click "no" then I can't take any photos; if I click "yes" the camera disconnects from Fotos!

So what am I doing wrong?

They also don’t let you paste in a password generated in LastPass or 1Password. A sure sign of a developer who knows nothing about security but thinks they do.

Another avenue for expressing your displeasure on this move from Leica is through their authorized retailers. If you have a relationship with a Leica store or dealer, let them know your thoughts and how Leica’s good will and customer loyalty are affected. Ask them to forward your sentiments to Leica. The dealers have more clout than individual buyers.

I did this yesterday and the store owner wrote me back within the hour saying he had been blindsided by the FOTOS move and would let Leica know.

Quoting Leica on their own website: « Edit your images fast and comfortable like never before thanks to a unique innovation: the seamless integration of Adobe Lightroom CC straight into the app. »

This is apparently not the case. The only thing this app seems to be doing is invoking an Adobe API. Obviously LR CC is not « integrated » in Fotos, Fotos being just a designator for files to be imported into LR. Just to understand, I’ve asked our IT guys to have a look as we have inhouse app builders.. Answer next week, they said they could do a little reverse engineering to see what it exactly does.

I think in the EU, it is being called Fotos for iPad. I installed this and as soon as I had signed on, it wanted me to pay £48.99 as the first of an ongoing annual fee

If you accept you have the 7 days (!) free trial and should be able to cancel prior to the 7 days in the App Store. That should better work since it is the only way of testing it.

Short test with the new (iPad) Fotos app: Q-> Leica Fotos App (select Photo and click Upload LR) –> Import to LR CC and apply some preset —> PS express to reduce size to Forum upload limits. Compared to old workflow with SD card reader and importing the photos first to the standard camera roll and then importing into LR this is definitely quicker, but is it worth 55€ p.a.... ? Also, it would be really beneficial if LR CC (iPad version) would be open for more download settings so that the workaround with PS express would not be necessary.

I have just initiated the 7-day free trial of FOTOS pro , but it looks like the use of Lightroom is depended on a separate Adobe subscription.  As far as I can tell, FOTOS Pro is just the means of connecting with the camera and uploading jpg and dng files onto the iPad.  As soon as the FOTOS app takes you to Lightroom, you are on your own and needing to pay Adobe.

I’ve emailed Leica software support through FOTOS for clarification, since none of this is spelled out.

Forget the Leica fotos app, in a month adobe comes with an option to import the files directly from a sd cardreader into lightroom cc. Faster and more reliable

https://www.theverge.com/2019/11/13/20963107/adobe-lightroom-apple-ipad-ios-direct-photo-import

Played a few hours with the leica app, see nothing special. It’s just a trasferring tool, adobe is not integrated, it’s only an export feature in the app. When you changed something in lightroom cc you do not see the changes in the ipad fotos app, that one remains unchanged. So if I want to upload it to social media, I have to do it anyhow via lightroom cc to see the changes. Again no need to use the leica app

I've been checking the android version. Without signing up to the Pro trial, I have exactly the same functionality as the previous version: download DNGs and export to Lightroom CC (and no need to sign in). So I don't know what the Pro version actually provides in addition. At first sight connection seems to be quicker and more reliable (with CL and SL).

I had used the previous version occasionally on my Android tablet (Galaxy S3, Android 9). It was slow, but worked. Had forgotten that I had left the app on auto update, so today there was this new 2.0 installed (seems to be on Google Play). It crashes all the time, so it's completely useless. I guess there is no way to get the old version back...

I would send a message, if I cared enough about FOTOs. I suggest that concerned members here contact their local dealers, the guys who pay large sums to Leica for their stock and customer orders. That might break through the defences of Wetzlar. As I see it, the charge/cost is not the main issue, but rather the poor functionality of the blessed thing. That might take a bit longer to fix.

I'm not even going to install the 2.0 app, I'll keep using the old version until it works, having to pay an annual fee for what should be a core basic functionality is embarassing.

I'm happy with my 12€ SD - USB-C card reader, and moreover Lightroom has already plenty of different Shortcuts (that you can also customize) that will import RAW files etc directly into their app.

William,

I only want Fotos because Leica has been stupid enough to delete browser access from the SL and CL, which was exceedingly useful. It would have been more to the point if they had expanded the browser access from just JPEG's to DNG's as well. If I quickly need to send some photos from CL or SL and I don't have a SD card reader  to hand, Fotos is now the only way to get the photos. Once they are in my iPad, I then use Airdrop to port them over to my Mac.

I will try it tonight on the SL2 to see if there is any specific feature that would require a firmware update on Qs, CLs and SL1s. Who knows? We might be discovering an hidden airdrop implementation that would transfer a DNG at light speed... The « PRO » features stay active til the end of the 7 days trial depite the cancelation of the subscription I did on the App Store.

Also got a SD card reader, just in case... 🙄
