Pink flower with green fly. SL2 and Sigma 100-400 plus 2ply  extender. #2 and #3 are crops. I like this lens even together with extenders.

#1 shows real size of the fly

Wow, really nice....How do you like that new Sigma?!

I just bought it yesterday. I'll be using it mainly for portrait shootings and weddings (hopefully, sometime in the future...). So far, I have not used any SL Leica lens, only the Sigma 24-70 DN DG which was bundled with my SL2 (my other cameras: M10 & Fuji X-T3). So only first impressions here:

Pro:

Very nice bokeh (less nervous/distracting than the Fuji 56/1.2; but this is very subjective, of course), already extremely sharp wide open (see also 100% crop of the photo posted above in the dedicated Sigma 85 thread); AF motors relatively quiet (compared to Fuji 56/1.2); very nice build quality; it is  a quite light and compact lens balancing very well on the SL2; quite quick and precise AF in good light

Con:

AF-S is most of the time sufficiently quick for a portrait lens (comparable to 56/1.2 on Fuji) and very precise. However, in some situations, where it is quite 'dark' (= ISO 3200, 1/125s, f/1.4) and the subject has a low contrast, the AF is hunting or even fails to find the focus. However, I supppose that is more a problem of the SL2 contrast AF system?! Not sure... By the way, the Fuji X-T3 (hybrid contrast/phase detection) has similar issues in these situations.

AF-C is not great at all (potentially faster than the Fuji X-T3 with 56/1.2 but with this typical 'SL2 AF-C' nervous, wobbling EVF. Don't know, if this is also the case with the Summicron-SL 75/90 lenses.

Neutral: Not sure about Leica '3D pop' and character of this lens so far... However, definitely not a 'clinical' lens producing only flat looking images in my opinion. Time will tell...

Thank you for that, it looks like a nice 85, I've owned a bunch of 85's over the years, a few have been Sigma's... I have the 75SL currently, I don't get the "nervous wobbling" effect in AF-C but I know what you mean. The samples I've seen of this new Sigma make me want to buy it and shoot it against my 75....(I'm) not too concerned with AF, I'd use it mostly for portraiture, I like that you think it's not "clinical"....I seem to always prefer a lens with character over "the perfect" lens.

But.....I will say, while my 75 is one of those perfect lenses, it also has character :)

After a long hiatus, finally had a chance to go for a model shoot again.  Love the colours of the SL2 with a 90-280.

Father’s Day in Sydney.
They say the old lenses designed by Dr W Mandler have more character than the modern designs by P Karbe. So here you go, I restored the old circa 1995 Summicron 90 Wetzlar Canada 🇨🇦 version to its former glory, even 6-bit coded it.

First day with the SL2, shooting performances of an outdoor play, The Happy Prince, based on the story by Oscar Wilde, and written by Sophie McMahon, one of the actors. Lightweight stuff, but the family audiences enjoyed it, and as the first live performance of a play in this area for about six months it was a momentous occasion.
