M10+35,mm. Elamarit R. The menu sees it a a 50mm Summilux - it must be the adapter.

The M10-R cannot tell which R lens is mounted on the adapter. You have to tell it, selecting the lens from the R lens table on the menu. In effect the R to M adapter is a dumb adapter and does not transmit any information even from ROM lenses. I have just checked and it has no electrical contacts at either side but does have a 6 bit code to tell the M that an adapter R is mounted. This should bring up the R lens selection menu automatically, when you switch the camera on. It does remember the last R lens selected, so for example if I go from my 500 MR-Telyt to my 21-35 Vario Elmar, without manually changing the lens selection menu, my corrections will be a long way off. The M adapter L and R adapter L are both smart adapters and do transmit lens ID for the first one and the ROM information (Aperture and focal length) for the second.

Hi Wilson,

As far as I'm aware this is only the case with the Leica M to R adapter so, for example, the Novoflex adapter won't bring up the R lens selection menu although I am happy to be corrected of course.

Pete,

I don't know if that particular Novoflex adapter has a recessed slot to paint codes in or not. Some do and some don't. Given how close Novoflex is to Leica, you might have hoped that they could come to some arrangement on 6 bit coding. Painting codes in is always a bit of a lottery. I just bought a Fotodiox Pro LTM to M ring, which seems very nicely made and measures as pretty accurate (within .02mm) and parallel but when I painted in the codes in the milled coding pits for a Summicron V, to mount my Summicron V Special Edition LTM lens on my M10-R - no recognition at all. I will try filling the bright aluminium pits with a white paint marker but it often is hit and miss. My Rayqual LTM adapters which just have a slot rather than milled pits and are anodised matte black, I got a 50 Summilux III code at first go (for my LTM Summilux III SE). I have one of Tim Isaac's plastic templates for marking the 6 bit codes but the slots are too narrow and after painting them in via the template, you always have to widen and lengthen the coding marks. A Pentel Sharpie seems to make the correct shade of black and a Uniball Posca  0.7mm white paint marker for the white codes.
