A lightweight 90

Do not forget  the light-weight ELANG Elmar 4/9cm. It's not the very best 90mm Leica but it is cheap, tiny, and a very good lens. Try it!

I've got the 90!

I'll post a few test pictures here, so you can tell me if you think it's Summarit, Elmarit or Elmar 🙂

Dennis ...😕

If the picture pleases you, why bother ?

Each of those can take good (and bad ! ) pictures, Summarit-M, Elmarit or Elmar (and Summicron, Summilux ?)

I'm sure these following brass lenses had taken good portraits or whatever 😄

Yes, I guess so! How fascinating (and heavy) these lenses are ...

Ok, I give it a try, just for fun. The Elmarit-M has a maximum magnification of 1:9. Older 90mm lenses do not improve upon this, as far as I know. Thus, given a sensor height of 2.4cm, the minimum object height is about 22cm. Not sure how tall this can is, but I guess the total object height in this picture is less than 22cm. This and the chosen aperture (f4), leads me to conclude that you bought a Macro-Elmar-M 90mm. Either this or that can is just taller than I thought... Anyway, enjoy your new lens!

...but the 90mm Summarit-M f/2.4 version does improve on it. ;)

Close-focus limit 0.9m. Maximum magnification is 1:7.8. Per Leica spec sheet.

Without knowing the can size, that doesn't prove anything by itself.

But the veiling flare in the picture of the backlit couple on the malecón, especially on the M10,  could make it a 90 Summarit f/2.4.

And Dennis mentioned that as one of his options..... ;)

It's an Elmarit-M .... 11807, SN from 1992 If I wrote well in LeicaWiki

It's a tank. Really like it. And despite the weight, I assure it feels lighter than my CV 35/1.2III.. Maybe cause a different balance, don't know.I shoot all photos at f4 because I use it a lot, usually. But also because if I had taken these photos at f2.8, you would had understand that was not the Elmar 🙂

Need to take much more photos to understand it. Two hours is nothing. But it's a bit better than the expected.

Thank you all for your previous helpful comments....

Great lens! In a recent comparison (tripod, 1/4000 exposure time, infinity focus) I did, it was better at f4 than my Macro-Elmar-M.

Wow, I thought the Macro-Elmar-M was unbeatable. Good to know.

I will definitely do some tests at infinity at f4 and f8. I would like some infinity landscapes shots with this lens
