I agree, is funky looking. The way they did the EVF is a turn off for me, sorry. Would prefer more like the Q instead of looking like a pimple popped up. If this is Cloony, I will hold onto my Q and happy with it. Might now consider the TL2.

But have you looked through it?

There is more to a camera than just its external appearance.

I like it, together with the pancake and the option of the 23mm will be a nice/small camera to have with me that will give me 28mm or 35mm equivalent. I will go for a black one.

I second that, if all the inner-specs are TL2 or better. I would like Leica also to introduce a small sized 40/50 mm. TL-Summicron-C, to form a nice small travel-set of 3 lenses.

I was thinking that the new camera will be:

-- with the 18mm pancake, a mini Q

-- with the 23mm a new X

-- with the 18-55 zoom a new X-vario

and of course it will have all the options of using M lenses, R lenses and all the other TL lenses.

Yes, the TL2 can do the same but I prefer this form to the TL2 form.

What a let down. I can see people cancelling their attendance of “Das Unwesentliche“ and TL2 buyers asking for a refund.

Why a let down? Just curious. Physically, it seems to be what you predicted.

But of course performance will be key. A good EVF and fast AF would be nice.

And this TL2 buyer will wait to ask for a refund till I hear how it performs. In terms of size, it looks like it might be a bit under 10mm taller (but difficult to judge), but the EVF bulge means it will catch on pockets more than the TL2.

Edit:

Q: is there any direct evidence that this is APS-C, and not FF?

The black version looks nearly as nice as my I Model As, but not quite there. Definitely the best looking camera in the current Leica line up. If this has some compact primes, it will replace the X-series and will also, possibly, kill the TLs. I thought I would not be interested at all in this camera, but this first sighting has caught my attention. What would make it perfect would be traditional marked dials, but perfection is hard to find.

Do I see a hint of nickel coloration in the lens mount? Now, that would be something for those of us who like the very early Leicas.

It seems to be a nice camera and it will probably revive the X-Series if the ptice is right, which is a good thing.

But a milestone?

Most likely it will just be a TL with integrated EVF.

Which is nice but nothing exciting.

But maybe Leica surprises us: Something like In Body Image Stabilisation or external Mic port...

No hints of new Clooney FF lenses and SL FF lenses would drown it

I would say this is a tad bigger than a X2. I measure (w-h-d): 140x87x45 m. including the EVF and140x75x35 mm, without counting the EVF

The T measures134x107x33 mm. incl the Visoflex and 134x69x33 mm. without.

That is quite a compact little gem, when the specs are comparable with the TL2 and a EVF of the Q or better. All depends on the size of the battery I think.

I'm not in love with its appearance, but if the EVF is equivalent to, or better than, the Q's and the user interface is more like the Q's/X line/ SL then I'm tempted to replace my TL2 with it.

I'd be greatly disappointed if the EVF is like the Visoflex currently available for the TL2.

For me, the EVF for the TL line is just not sufficiently good for using M lenses and nailing focus wide-open.
