1949 5cm Nikkor-SC f1.5 LTM on M10-P

Just a correction to be fair , this 5cm Nikkor-SC f1.5 LTM lens is from 1950 not 1949 🙂

When I first bought the Jupiter-3+ I took it out with several classic Sonnar formula lenses, including a ZK Sonnar, 1936 5cm F1.5 Sonnar, and the Nikkor-SC 5cm F1.5 from the 905 batch.

The Nikkor compares well with the 1930s Zeiss Sonnars, but is not quite as good as the Wartime Sonnars- which have an improved optical formula. The wartime Sonnars are flimsy by comparison with this all-brass, solidly made lens.

At F1.5 and F4, respectively. At F4- sharp enough for anyone.

Psychedelic bokeh and psychedelic colors... a little too much, I would say

Perhaps one to experiment with...

I had the opportunity to put an Elmar 135/4 on an X1D ii. It is not sharp enough that I would use it as a telephoto lens, but it renders delightfully at short distance. Here at f/5.6, ISO 1600, 1/80 second. Phocus and Picture Window Pro.

1951 Summitar f=5cm 1:2 on Leica SL.  A remarkably good lens, in some ways better (if you find a good copy) than the 1960 collapsible Summicron-M 50 that superseded it.  Very interesting "swirl" wide-open.

Another Summitar image on the SL, this time a 100% crop from the middle of a frame taken at f/4 to show just how sharp this old lens is.  A view of Ramsgate in Kent, UK from Sandwich Bay.
