Where are most of you folks finding these vintage lenses? eBay? KEH? Other dealers? I'd love to know, there are some amazing images in here.

Anything goes, really: eBay, dealers, auctions, forum classifieds, exchange networks, etc. It's a never-ending (but fun) quest. A word of caution: it gets addictive, time consuming - and potentially expensive.
Now, in order to deflect Pete's wrath, I will have to stick to the thread's rules and post a picture 😉

1937 Carl Zeiss Jena 13.5cm F4 uncoated optics- but a beautiful bloom, converted to Leica mount using a Jupiter-11 focus mount. Total investment $100 plus a lot of work.

Wide-Open on the Leica M9. I use a 1.25x magnifier on the viewfinder. Focus is accurate across the full range.

All pictures with the converted 13.5cm F4 Sonnar on my Leica M9.

The close-focus on the Jupiter-11 focus mount is ~2m. The optical barrel of this Zeiss lens screwed straight into the 1970 Russian barrel with the Aperture index exactly where it should be once the new shim was in place. I was very surprised, and lucky. Focus is accurate across range, because of the long minimum focus distance of the J11.

Gorge Mason's house in Virginia. I asked at the Visitor center: the House is not level, has settled. Drove my crazy trying to get the house level- until I realized that it wasn't.

I took my Tele-Elmarit 135 F2.8 along with the Sonnar, with the Goggles and 1.25x magnifier- no problem on the M9 used wide-open.

This was NOT a controlled test, just walking around with the different lenses.

I also brought along an Industar-26m, made in 1957- "I have a collection of lenses and cameras made in 1957, including my M3DS".

This lens was $9. Lots of time invested giving it a CLA and shimming for the Leica. This is a Tessar formula lens. It gets a bum rap- I find it to be quite good.

This is a 52mm F2.8 lens, shots are wide-open.

More with the Industar-26m.

I have some very expensive lenses, but always enjoy finding a common lens with clean glass that needs (a lot) of work. This is the least expensive lens that I've shot with on my Leica, not counting ones given to me.

Brian,
Your pictures made me go rummage in the almost-forgotten-lenses drawer, where I knew an Industar-26M had been waiting to be fed some light for a long time. I also checked my records and it would seem that I originally won the lens on an eBay auction for 1.25$ (yes, one twenty-five!), including a yellow filter but excluding 18$ shipping... Unfortunately, the weather outside is awful and it's almost night here, so a quick shot in the kitchen is all I could manage (mixed lighting, so B&W conversion looks better to me). I'll give it another spin shortly, along with a few of its drawer companions.

Really love this image but the slight tilt in the buildings is really distracting to me.  Is it only me?

Just picked up a 65 Elmar and focusing mount, using it on my CL, with a Viso II head as a spacer.

Carl Zeiss Jena 8.5cm F4 Triotar, adapted to Leica mount using an inexpensive ($70) RF coupled adapter. I had to use a Black Sharpie on the inside of the adapter, had been left in brass finish. The Triotar has a tendency to flare, but nothing compared to the reflections I was getting before fixing the adapter. First Sunny day in a while.

All shots wide-open, on the M9. This lens focuses to 1m. Straight exports to JPEG, no adjustments to contrast, clarity, etc- just reduce size.

This lens was not popular in the 1930s, very few made. Most favored the 8.5cm F2 Sonnar. The latter does not flare as badly as this lens- I have one made about the same time as this one, ~1937. This lens is much better than I thought it would be, is a 3 element design. Similar lenses include the Nikkor-T 10.5cm F4 and Canon 100mm F4.
