Battery cover of my two MP ( when I used and had them ) never fall off.

In doubt, just turn it hard when you screw in.

Then once a while have an eye on it when you first put MP in use each time.

Or give it a "dab turning" to be certain in first days.

Or a very tiny "dab" of soft nail polish on the thread before screewing the cover in.

I'd be more concerned with the soft release (I lost the one I've tried at first use, so never use one after that).

You just have to check once in a while if it is still screwed tightly. Just like filters , some things have the tendency to unscrew . For me, it's just a part of the routine except when I have a case around it.

By the way, with two of my MP camera's there was a spare one in the box! Especially with the a la carte MP's there are two different ones in the box. One with the leather of the body and one black one.

It took a while, but I have arrived.  This brand new beauty landed on my doorstep yesterday.  One question.  I saw some information about this elsewhere in the thread, but I'm not clear.  Do the standard battery covers have a tendency to fall off?  I would hate to lose it, but on the other hand, it is more pleasing to me than the slotted extra cover.

In my experience as an MP owner since 2006, the blank battery cover does have a tendency to loosen and drop off.  It has happened several times with mine, fortunately I have caught it and never lost it . I use the slotted cover and that has never worked itself loose.

A tip; get rid of that soft release.  It does nothing for the handling of the MP and can be an expensive liability if subjected to impact.  Nice camera!

I have been using Leica Ms for many years with soft releases, and while they are a nuisance and expense, they make a real difference for me.  Every few years, after one comes up missing one on one of my film Ms, I'll commit to relearning my technique sans softie.  Nope.  I always come back.

Now I am curious. I have two relatively early MPs, produced in 2002 and 2003, respectively (shown a few days ago in this thread). Both just came with one battery cover. It is screwed in and correspondingly there is a very low chance of losing it. What do you mean with "blank" cover and "slotted" cover? Did later MPs come with two battery covers? If so, what is the difference between the blank and slotted version? Thanks.

Thanks. Did I overlook the slotted cover in the camera box? Hard to imagine. I need to get them out of the storage and check. Or maybe these slotted covers were only introduced later during production? Does anyone now?

My MP came with a slotted cover and a non-slotted (blank) cover. If you only have one, then it might be a good idea to have a spare.

Same with me. My first new MP chrome ( 2006) had one cover ( not slotted ) , my second ( a la carte  nr 3976035 ) had two, one leather and one slotted .

After watching the Leica store Miami, Red Dot Forum YouTube show with David and Josh talking about film M’s, I ordered an MP back in May from Josh.
Josh said it might take a year to get, as no one knew when Leica would make the next batch. But Wednesday  he said one would be into Miami on Thursday, and today it was in my hands.

Thanks to this forum I knew to check for the extra battery cover (next to the neck strap in the box). I also knew to expect that removing the battery cover and changing the ISO would be challenging. And I was reminded that battery off is B-off. Having had two M 6’s in the past, film loading was not an issue. I look forward to enjoying this MP.

 Thanks folks.

Jack

Beautiful, congratulations!  And you got a Summarit 2.4/50 too, great lenses at great prices. Enjoy!

Wow, its bloody beautiful. Is this the new leather that comes with the MP stock now? It doesn't look like the sharkskin-like appearance of the previous models?
