Quite fascinating results for such a tiny lens. How does it work on M10 (non R) or SL2-S ?

Great that you have asked that. On the regular M10 (I have the M10-P, but it is still the same sensor as M10), the lens performs equally as on the M10-R, meaning images will appear without any statistically significant magenta edges (see samples below). I do have the latest version of the lens, the latest Leica firmware and the lens is coded in camera as 11134. YMMV.

I have also mastered the 50cm close focus through the RF patch. There is a technique of keeping the split image of the subject you are focusing on apart in the RF patch just enough it does not go all the way to the edges and there is your 50cm shot perfectly focused - see the cactii image for reference.

This lens offers INCREDIBLE PERFORMANCE if we take into account its size and price. I think it was forgotten a bit and disregarded due to strong magenta edges on M240, but with every new camera iteration since M10 this lens really becomes a solid performer (if you do not mind strong flares and vignetting). As we saw in this thread there are 100% zero magenta edges on M11 and my tests show similar results for M10-P and M10-R when coded as 11134. Of course this may vary due to certain tolerances, lens age and other factors on your M10(-X) cameras, but all in all just fascinating.
The edges sharpen up at about f/11.
If you are looking for an UWA travel lens to accompany your tiny M arsenal (Summaron 28/5.6, Elmarit 28mm/2.8 ASPH, Color Skopar 35/2.5, Summilux 35 pre-asph, Summaron 35/2.8, Summicron-C 40/2, Nokton 40/1.4, Elmar 50/2.8 collapsible) this is the one!

It seems nothing has changed on the above version from the original ltm version I had and hated.  The random magenta blobs of flare and mediocre resolution are not something I could live with.  I definitely do not share your enthusiasm for it, but good luck with it anyway

As far as my M-mount copy is concerned, vignetting is moderate compared to S-A 21/3.4 or Biogon 21/4.5, and the Skopar 21/4 is only softer at full aperture. It has more distortion though but it is easy to adjust in PP. Main issues are flare and color shifts (red edge) on M240 and, supposedly, M9 (no experience with it). Those issues are mostly addressed on the later Skopar 21/3.5 but it suffers from color fringing contrary to the 21/4 version.

I totally get you. This lens definitely is a bundle of compromises. But its size is unbeatable for what it offers and that must be its main tour de force. There is also a small possibility you had a bad copy - plenty of those on the Voigtlander Cosina front. Mine is really sharp on 40mpix even wide open (center) and over the entire image from f/11 - and I am a really picky pixel peeper. I did have the folks at the store test it on two different M bodies wide open at infinity and send me the pics before I purchased it though. Many conflicting reports on sharpness indicate vivid sample variations.
Already using it on my assignment, haven’t touched the 24 lux yet.

I think it's brilliant on my M246M ;), can't beat the size and for my use sharp enough.

I don't have a colour Leica but on my Sony's it indeed shows some colour shift towards purple in the corners, but nothing that a bit of simple PP can't solve. And from everything I've read its performance on colour Leica's is better than on Sony's. Other than that I find the rendering and colours it produces very nice.

Thanks a lot for your replies! Indeed, I have a special liking for tiny lenses, and am looking to build up a set with several of those you mention here... (considering the two 28s and the 40s as well...).

I have done the "pixel peeper's delight special" side by side comparison, full image and 200% crop for sharpness wide open on M10-P.

I got mine few years ago. Only recently figured out how to deal with magenta corners. It is not present if I set auto exposure metering with +1 compensation.

On M-E 220, mine is LTM with its "hood":
