yes i agree...

i have both voigtlander 35mm f1.2 and f1.7 and been using it for years. i absolutely love it. the f1.2 i actually sell it and buy it again because i miss it so much. those two lenses has different rendering. the f1.2 has very smooth bokeh same as summilux rendering but without the sharpness and the 3d look. the f1.7 it is very sharp and has lovely characteristic. i intend to buy summilux in this month, i'll compare those 3 lenses.

you can see on my flickr album it has all lenses i've ever tried. click here https://www.flickr.com/photos/103080346@N05/albums

cheers

Peter,

Just fabulous pictures on your FlickR site!  Certainly you've made a strong case for the performance of a number of the wide-open-capable lenses; the Voigtlanders, among others, look quite nice. Thank you.

Please tell me: are you going to keep the Leica 25-90 zoom? Does the weight factor become overwhelming such that you do not opt to use it?

Thanks,

Rob

yes sure i will keep the 24-90mm, the only reason i keeping it for now is the weather sealed. i always bring 24-90mm when i travel, along with voigtlander 15mm, 35mm 1.7 because its small and lightweight. and that's it. 3 lens cover everything i need.

when i go to wet places such as beaches, or when raining, i don't have to worry. yes it is quite heavy, but you'll get used to it. the autofocus help a lot when hiking, in a boat, things like that. some things that manual focus is having a hard time. don't worry about leica lenses, voigtlander has everything you need and will save you some money. 35mm f1.2 has similar bokeh with summilux though.

you can take a look of the review here http://www.jaycassario.com/blog/2016/3/5/battle-of-the-35s-nokton-vs-summilux

sharpness wide open and the 3d pop is the only visible difference

On the theme of Voigtländers on SL ...

I own 10mm and 15mm. Both are very good although I'm replacing the 15mm mark III with Super-Elmar-M 18mm.

The 15mm is available now if someone wants to buy it off me :-)

Here is a sample of the insanely wide 10mm ...

Hi forumers!
I am looking for some advice of which lens would be suitable for sports on the SL. All I want is to get some half-decent photos of
the occasional kids' football match and so forth so I'm not going to sink too much money into this. Which rules out the SL 90-280.
I own the 24-90 but it is clearly to short and the rest of my kit is M-lenses so I am looking for good third-party options, for example

the 70-200 or -300 range.
I have just ordered the Novoflex EOS-SL adapter on the basis of the great availability of second-hand Canon lenses, but having

read some fairly disappointing reviews after (duh!) I placed the order I'm  not so sure how this will work in the end.
Otoh many of the bad results involved lenses not on the Novoflex compatibility list, so maybe there is hope after all..?
In any case, if someone on the forum has any experience with lenses for sports on the SL, Canon or otherwise, I'd highly appreciate

any input.

Cheers

well welcome to the group... =p

70-200mm f2.8 usm ii is not working well. i mean its often hang. the af is acceptable. surely not for sport.

300mm f2.8 for brief moment. i think this working well. fast af.

from these two lenses, i think the zoom lenses is not working well. i'm going to try 300m f4 and 400mm f4.

well, some says the 70-300mm L series is working well. if anybody tried this please share the experience.

300 f/2.8L II worked very poorly for me ... slow AF and locking up // not suitable for what this lens is excellent for in my opinion

What are your expectations/needs ? What are your priorities ? (your skills)

If your first priority is AF speed (and tracking AF), then simply use your lens on an original body. (If the only thing you want to do is press the button and expect the camera to do everything else, then use "original" camera plus lens combo. SL + 90-280, 5Ds + EF 100-400 ) And you have OIS (or IS or VR) only with original equipment.

If you typically use a "back button AF" setup and often "prefocus" and simply wait (well prepared) for the best moment, then the adapted lenses are well usable.

If you find the lenses satisfactory, depends mainly on your skills and your expectations.

You find an example of the AF speed (70-200) here:  http://www.l-camera-forum.com/topic/264942-do-not-buy-the-novoflex-ef-sl-adapter/page-3?do=findComment&comment=3199650

Steppenw0lf,

Good questions indeed and thank you for your input. I guess my skills could be better allthough I started shooting in the days of manual focus and that is basically still how I shoot. I'm quite inexperienced with fast moving objects though, but as my son is getting more and more up to speed with his sports I will have to keep up! I have considered buying a cheap Canon 5d II just for this, but I hesitate to pile up several bodies, and I am not very fond of the concept of the feature-bloated DSLRs. So I was thinking more along the lines of sticking to the Leicas as much as possible and see if I could somehow make it work for the odd sports occasion. I think perhaps the best would be as you say to just focus manually with the adapter and a suitable zoom and reconsider if I can not pull it off with acceptable results. Perhaps it wil do good for my skills too in the end.

Cheers

I tried the usm i though. But usm ii should work better. Then still there's no fast af telephoto lens with novoflex. How about 300mm f4 or 400mm f5.6? Anybody know?

so the adapter came in today. I ran the AF on few of my lenses. Here are the result:

135L: AF work. Fast AF.
24-105L : AF work. Speed ok
50 ART: Not at all
20 ART: Freaking fast/snappy AF. I'm surprised.
35 ART: Not at all
18-35 ART: Fast/snappy AF
50-100 ART: Fast AF (some time the camera seem to lost communication, just stop focus. Turn off, turn back on, fast, snappy again)

A great lens, in many respects.

Do you also post at flickr ? Or another place with more resolution than here ?

Yes, fab lens when ignoring size and weight...

No - I am not on the web (yet). Pass me your email address, and I can send you a high res version of the image.

i have a chance to test out few more lenses and here are the result

Canon 300mm f/2.8 IS II: AF work. OK speed.

Canon 400DO mkii : AF work but VERY VERY SLOW.

Canon 600mm f/4L IS II: AF work but Slow.

My 800 is in for yearly service at Canon Service center now. Will test that lens later.

So, all the long big white canon lenses will work but you can't do any wildlife/sport shooting.

I'll run other test with Nikon lens once the adapter arrive next week.
