Advertisement Posted January 11, 2016 Posted January 11, 2016 Hi jaapv, Take a look here "Check Battery Age". I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
jmahto Posted January 11, 2016 Share #122 Posted January 11, 2016 What is the problem? Just obey the camera and check battery age. Dig up the receipt if needed. Then what? Do I send a snail mail to Leica that I checked?
lawman Posted January 11, 2016 Share #123 Posted January 11, 2016 Of what possible interest could knowledge of the chronological age of a battery be?? The number of charging cycles remaining would be of some interest, but this dating information seems quite useless- unless Leica knows something about these batteries they're not telling us!! Soden Posted January 11, 2016 Share #124 Posted January 11, 2016 What is the problem? Just obey the camera and check battery age. Dig up the receipt if needed. If I wanted to obey the camera I would have bought a dSLR...
Soden Posted January 11, 2016 Share #125 Posted January 11, 2016 A simple experiment proves that it is indeed data-based: 1. Turn on camera with battery that shows the warning. 2. Set the camera's date back one year. 3. Turn off camera. 4. Turn on camera. 5. Press the info button -> The warning is gone. I get the message on two different cameras. An original M240 and a M246. For the same battery. I only get this message on the oldest battery. One out of five. So combining all this info, I think a firmware fix is in order. For the entire M line. pop Posted January 11, 2016 Share #126 Posted January 11, 2016 What is the problem? Just obey the camera and check battery age. Dig up the receipt if needed. Yes, certainly. I have done this several times and still the message persists. I would like to stop checking my battery age and to go out to take a photograph or two.
jaapv Posted January 11, 2016 Share #127 Posted January 11, 2016 Advertisement (gone after registration) Then what? Do I send a snail mail to Leica that I checked? No - just tell your camera. Though she won't believe you and ask again next time.
Soden Posted January 11, 2016 Share #128 Posted January 11, 2016 No - just tell your camera. Though she won't believe you and ask again next time. Just like my wife.
Steve Ricoh Posted January 11, 2016 Share #129 Posted January 11, 2016 This may sound a bit radical... Having read the message once, ignore it and carry on using the camea. You'll know when the battery has reached the end of its serviceable life, ie when it no longer holds charge for more than a few hours. I've used li-ion batteries for yonks and I've never had one fail on me yet, and charge retention fall-off is negligeable, When manufacturers say battery life is 1000 charge/discharge cycles, they're probably being somewhat conservative. don daniel Posted January 13, 2016 Share #133 Posted January 13, 2016 0213VB shows the warning on my M240, too. 1113VB does not. Both batteries still work very well.

Peter Kilmister Posted January 13, 2016 Share #135 Posted January 13, 2016 I have an Audi (VW Group)and a Leica. Apparently my Audi isn't affected. No warnings on my battery either. What's the problem that a firmware update can't fix?

Manoleica Posted January 13, 2016 Share #137 Posted January 13, 2016 (edited) Both VW & Leica accept that the issues are legit.. They will rewrite the software/firmware, and engineer the remedies.. If your Audi is not affected & your Leica shows no battery warning, mazeltov.. Edited January 13, 2016 by manoleica
