New S2 Firmware Available

A welcome improvement. My 4T hard drive will now last me twice as long. I will have to test the improved focus, as i had no problem in the past.

I could argue that the combination of firmware and LR3 improvements in one year are more useful than an S3 with more resolution. So in a sense, we now have a S2.5.

Top improvements are:

Loss less compression of files to 45MB instead of 75MB.

Big deal, with impact on card storage, buffer can hold 15 shots now, tethering is much faster now, an issue in the past.

Better autofocus in my testing. Much closer to what I was used to with DSLRs. Bigger deal than I expected.

Bulb can be preset for time, and for two minutes longer than the mere 30 seconds before. Important for night shots.

Lots of menu adjustments for setting stuff that's handy and nice.

As I have said, this is a very nice improvement that impresses me that can be added in firmware. Like a S2.5

I agree with JMacD. For me the changes in the AF are absolutely convincing. The comment above that the S2 now behaves more like a 35mm DSLR is absolutely correct. Nothing wrong with behaving like a MF camera, but the form factor of the S2 fools you into thinking it is a "normal" camera like a D3. Well done Leica.

Since installing this update I am starting to have some serious thoughts that are making my D3X cry!

Oh and I hope that everyone will have a safe and enjoyable end to the year.
