John,

You are almost there - what you list is correct except for the Alfa part. You will surely narrow it down further, possibly with this next image?

Christoph,

I was about to send you a hint for the "alfa" clue in my previous reply but you found it. Lancia Appia GT it is. I'll post full pictures tonight but for now over to you.

A nice looking car, though a it looks a bit beat up...

Here's a picture of a detail of the car you have to guess now:

One detail view and the overview. Photographing this car is like photographing a sculpture: lots of nice details...

Thanks, Christoph…Yes, it was easy, but to let you in on a little secret,I feel as if I almost cheated because in April of '61 I took delivery of a new red XKE Coupe, and every tiny detail is forever burned into my memory. Enjoyed it a lot and won many a Concours with it, but Lord, between the Lucas electrics, the Girling brakes, the SU carburetters, the Smith instruments and the inexperienced US dealer network's inabilty / unwillingness to work with me to make it the car everyone agreeed it should have been, all conspired to make a bitter old man of me long before my time.

In the spirit of Mother's Day I too will make it a little easier by providing three images of the new 'mystery' car, but please be advised that it's so uncannily similar to another, much more famous and coveted car, made in the same country at the same time, and which looks very much like the machine you're supposed to guess. that it may actually prove more confusing than helpful.

Close, but not a Delage.

To help narrow it down, it is French ( as you already guessed )and it's pre-war, and is considered one of the highlights of the "goutte d'eau" ( teardrop - drop of water ) school of design.

Absolutely correct ! Well done.

I was going to hold out for the exact model name but that would have been too much. In any event, it's the rare 1939 Talbot-Lago T150C-SS Pourtout Coupe, of which less than thirty are known to have been built. Only four of this model had bodies by Marcel Pourtout - this is the last of the four.

Obviously heavily influenced in its styling by the Bugatti Atlantique, it is nevertheless a magnificent example of the best this marque had to offer. There's one of these in a gorgeous Burgundy color at the Mullin Museum.

Over to you, Stuart.
