Not as rare as some of what's been posted, but certainly uncommon. I'm sure some of you have seen this elsewhere. The Leicavit is also part of the LHSA MP3 set, I do lack the 50/1.4 part of the kit as I purchased body & vit seperately.

Did anyone know the year of my elmar with number 135236?

Is it 1930 or 1931?

Probably 1932 or even 1933, indeed : the Elmar 90 story is this :

- 1930 : experimental ultrarare Elmar 90 f 6,3

- 1931 : Elmar 90 f4, "fat" design (some variants): early lenses (as mine) are unnumbered

- 1932 : again the "fat" version, numbered, most of the year

- 1932 "end of year" : new "slim" version, the very first items (ultrarare) have a mount that, at the end, is tapered (a small cone shape, subsequently used, much elongated, in the Elmar 105 f 6,3)

- 1933 : Elmar slim design.

So, your item could be end of '32 - start of '33... I have nowhere red which was the starting s/n of the slim version... but seems to me reasonable that the first batch could have started at 135.000... don't remember to have seen other focals in the 135.xxx range.

Leica 110. Here it is, from the beginning of creation till the finished camera.

Ah, now that's sweet. I like the threaded shutter release with the M style collar. Did this camera have anything like a proper Leica lens or was it just a rebadged camera made elsewhere?

Any evidence, for me, is that it's a rebadged Japanese (Minolta?) : 110 was a short lived frenzy of mid' 70s... a period already a bit uncomfortable for Leitz factories : I doubt they would have afforded to establish a production line for such a camera.

No "rarities" for some days... :o ... well, this isn't ancient nor super rare ... an Elmarit 28 of the very first series, Wetzlar made and with the box that proudly displays its complex and then abandoned 9 elements design. I like this item, even if later designs perform better, and, on M8, lightmetering is uncorrect with it... :o

My scarce Canadian 28mm Elmarit-M Type I with Wetzlar hood ... I think Luigi's Wetzlar Mk I is rare compared to the Canadian version.

Cheers

Thanks for the "handshaking" Wetzlar-Ontario, Dunk .... :); I never found info about the production figures Germany/Canada of the 1st Elmarit 28... the numbering is not so clear... I never saw a Wetzlar in th 2.1xx.xxx range, but Lager displays a 2.061.xxx from Wetzlar, a 2.062.xxx from Canada, my Wetzlar is 2.063.xxx... who knows ?

My hood (apparently, part of the original boxed set) is ALMOST identical to yours... but not exactly ! The engraved code is 12501 M ! it bears also the "1:3,4 / 21" engraving, like yours.

As I said, the 28 Elmarit 1st version is undoubtly an interesting item, but Leitz did a good job with its successors... a comparision I made some time ago, 100% crops from a M8 shot, both lenses at 5,6 to avoid small focusing differences... first the 9 elements, then a 3rd version (Canada, of course) from 1982: exactly the same processing in Lightroom from DNG.

Thanks for the comparison pictures Luigi ... big difference ... I have the Mk III also but have only just acquired it and have not tried it yet. I wonder if the difference would be so apparent for a non-close-up subject? Maybe the Mk I was not designed for close focus? Might be worth comparing at longer focusing distances but the Mk III would probably still have the edge.

I made other comparisons... can't help, newer is ALWAYS better... only detail in which the 1st stands up: vignetting (but on M8, remember) is not at all higher: with film, difference was more evident, in this sense: I remember that, in my mind, I got a feeling not so different than the comparision of Super Angulon f4 with Super Angulon 3,4.

Guest flatfour

Seems silly , but I was told by a collector that this viewfinder is extremely rare - a WEISU in original box and tissue.
