Your rarest pieces

I saw the thread on rarest pieces, and thought I would start one where we can tell, and maybe show, some of our rarest pieces from our personal collections.

I have two items that are not instantly replaceable:

1) LHSA M6TTL 0.58: Rumored between 50 and 60 pieces. Purchased for 50% off original retail from someone exiting the hobby.

2) 35/1.4/ASPHERICAL: Rumored less than 1000 pieces. Purchased new for original retail.

Both items have been used by myself to take pictures - gasp!

Not so much, but at least a start. My next dilemma - affording the M8.2 Safari.

Eric

I had a 35mm Summilux aspherical the rare one but didn't like its soft wide open performance. I tried to sell it for a loss but no takers. I then took it to a camera shop where the proprietor counted numerous bills in front of me without blinking an eye. I made money on that one.

Recently I bought a Nikon S2 off ebay and it came with a very rare almost unheard of Nikon S mount 2" f/2 Cooke Amotal. I sold it to a collector and gave him the camera for free. Made some pocket money.

More recently I bought an Angenieux original LTM 90/1.8. I didn't know it was rare until some shop offered me 10x what I paid. Interesting lens very much like my 73mm Hektor. I think I'll use it.

My rarest item is most likely my copy of the first ever Leitz camera brochure (list #2238 from November 1926). Although it was printed in an edition of 45.000 copies, I doubt that more than a handful of these have survived until today.

I think my most rare piece is this:

Leica OISBO stereo lens mounted on a IIC Leica body with the OIDYO bright line viewfinder.

Here`s my 1943 Leica IIIC K Grey "Civilian" with Dark Red K "Kugellger" shutter stamp (less than 200 cameras were made with this) ~ Together with it`s original Summitar f2/50 with the rare bakelite plastic cap and a "wartime" black leather ER case.

My camera was produced in May 1943 and delivered to a civilian entity, and later captured by a solider of the forward element of 9th Armored Division, shortly after he crossed the Ludendorff Bridge at Remagen, Germany in March 1945.

I bought the camera directly from that solider`s family in 2008

I like Leica M4 chrome 'Ernst Leitz Canada' too. I have a very rare type of it, with chrome body engraved on top plate: ERNST LEITZ CANADA LTD. MIDLAND, ONTARIO, there are only 100 such cameras. It is illustrated in Lager vol. I, p.229.
