M8 Firmware 2.004

Classic, trying to pass a personal attack for irony or sarcasm, after the fact of course. You better desist, sir; and learn what a conspiracy theory is before talking. Let me tell you one last time, let's see if you will get it this time: I never stated anything but my opinion that the delayed release has been nothing but a marketing decision from Leica, who decided to release it a while after the M8.2's release not to trump M8.2's sales. Got it? Last, as I repeatedly said in this thread and as it must be obvious to anyone with a working brain, of course all we present here is our opinions, unless you are Dr. Kaufmann or Stephen, or someone else speaking for Leica - which you are not, as far as I remember. Mine is a reasonable and logic interpretation of why Leica decided to hold on the release; you don't like it, fine. You have a better one, or a dozen better ones, more solid and logical than mine, please do offer them to us; otherwise, as I said before, desist from making personal attacks when you have nothing better to back up your ideas and try to learn to respect other people's vision, it will do you some good.

However, nobody seem to notice that Leica waited for M8.2 sales to decline, and once they decided that the "discreet mode" allure was over they finally did what they should have done in the first place: give the update to the old M8s as well. Not too honest IMHO, but that's the way it is.

sure smells like a conspiracy theory to me ...

(masquerading as personal opinion and wrapped in a

layer of self-absorbed drivel -- obvious to anyone with

half a working brain)

though, i still prefer my theory ... of course

actually, i think Leica waited for you to sell your two M8s

(and
move to the film Ms)
before they decided to release

the "discrete mode" update ...

;)

Darn! - and I lose my high-speed internet today (Feb. 28 - newspaper finally folded - cleaning out my desk now!)

Let's see - at 9 minutes per megabyte download time.......

Anyone want to help a leisure-class (i.e. unemployed, freelance, whatever) photographer by sending a 2.004 CARE package on a CD? (PM me)

Very bum deal on Rocky Mountain News. Having worked at newspapers for 20 years I'm sorry to see their decline. Good luck out there!

I know that I may be "stepping in the s**t here, but I think that a moderator needs to intervene, and put an end to Cyberian's Pit Bull like attacks on Vieri. Vieri has made a valid point in his defense, even though Cyberian may not like how Vieri expressed his opinion on this matter. Vieri, I looked at your work, especially the graffiti. Wonderful stuff. I shoot graffiti/walls the same way, your work reminds me of my work. It's time that we put our differences aside and act like mature adults. Just my two cents. Russell P.S. I know that I am hijacking this thread again, but this time with good cause.

Of course. You keep repeating your empty words about conspiracies that exist only in your mind, keep the personal attack up, fail to read all the posts going on from me and others, and do not offer any alternative opinions except for a snappy remark. Thanks for proving my point.

Oh, by the way - I have about enough about your nonsense, so this will be my last reply to you. I am pretty sure you'll want to have the last word, so please go on and have it. :D

I think they just need to "get a room." :p

Read my last post. I will not keep answering anymore to the only boy here.

Yeah, no tellin what would happen.

Oh that's classy guys. :D You surely know from personal experience all about that will happen, don't you?

Vieri, Read my previous post. You need to stop responding to Cyberian's attacks on your (valid) opinions. This is the only way(plus a moderator's intervention) that the back and forth will stop. BTW, I really like your work, no matter what media you use to create it. Russell

Hey Russell, thank you very much for your post and nice words about my photography. about Cyberean, I just did stop with my last post - no worries. For a second I thought there would be some use in explaining myself, but enough is enough. :)

Thanks again for your support! :D

I simply don't believe the new firmware will have the discreet advance for the M8. I don't see that happening. I would love it but I don't believe it.

Let's see.

Can we quote you on this Tuesday :)

Owning Leica is about having faith :)

I haven't read all the pages of the intervening "food fight" going on since the above quote, but Vieri's interpretation makes sense to me, and makes me feel that Leica hasn't done itself much good by its recent upgrade policy in terms of customer good will: except for the need of a DRF camera many customers simply cannot care whether a company that treats it's customers this way survives or perishes. The same goes for Leica's refusal to provide a firmware alternative to its lens coding, as many users cannot send in their lenses for coding either because they live in countries from which this impractical (such as Thailland) or cannot be without their lenses for the length of time required to have them coded by Leica.

Well Mitch that very well may happen in future firmwares.

With this reversal of policy, discrete mode, you never know what is up there sleeve.

I'm not sure I'll ever need or use this new feature, I liked they included Auto ISO but after using it for about a week or 2 I went back to my old habits, IE a manually SET ISO, but it will be nice to have it. Just like Auto ISO is good to have.
