thrid Posted March 7, 2009 Share #141 Posted March 7, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) Those old Leicaflexes are HUGE. Actually the SL/SL2 (without a motor) are reasonably big, compared to something like an F2/F3. But Leica carved them from a solid block of metal. If I remember correctly the SL has a stainless steel baseplate that could stop a round from an AK-47. Seriously, you can hammer nails with a Nikon F/F2, but there is nothing out there that has the heft or density of an SL/SL2.

SteveYork Posted March 7, 2009 Share #142 Posted March 7, 2009 One of my favorite lenses of all time. Funny you posted that picture. I just ordered that exact combination from a store. If I don't like the SL2, then it gets sent back, and I'll stick with the Ms, but the bigger body will suit my hands better. Also, I understand the viewfinder is very special, and hopefully the better viewfinder will help with focusing. I've had trouble focusing some of the other Rs. Along with the 180/3.4 apo what are some of the other non-rom stand out lenses? I've know the 50 Summicron and the 90 elmarit are pretty good too. I've used the same optical formulas in the M mount. I guess the macro lenses are highly rated too.

SteveYork Posted March 17, 2009 Share #150 Posted March 17, 2009 Here's my spunky R6.2 along with an equally spunky 50mm Summicron. It keeps badgering me for more playing time, and complains that I unfairly use the rangefinder too much. But I'm new to SLRs, what else can I do? Seriously, I'm going to sample an SL2 too and see if that big, beautiful viewfinder wins me over, but this R6.2 is growing on me. PS -- I can't do flash if my life depended on it! fernando_b Posted March 17, 2009 Share #151 Posted March 17, 2009 Steve, you have a very interesting sample of the R6.2, it has the rewind lever of the R6, while the window of the exposure counter is of the 6.2. I don't know it is rare, some expert here couls say. Fernando.

SteveYork Posted March 17, 2009 Share #153 Posted March 17, 2009 From the serial number it's from the first batch of R6.2s. It was sitting on a dealer's shelf all these years. It's probably analogous to the MPs when they first came out and the first batch or so had the old M6 style iso dial.

Guest User 42869 Posted May 16, 2009 Share #159 Posted May 16, 2009 Hello, My R4 and R5 are lucky now 'cause they got their "grandmother" back, a chrome Leicaflex SL! The SL today may looks like it has been with a Magnum-Photographer in 1960ies Vietnam or 1970ies Lebanon, but it still works great! And it was a cheap item on Ebay, too... Welcome, dear visitor!
