Those old Leicaflexes are HUGE.

They just have such a "bulky" design (I still like the nice "curves" of my R4 and R5 more, sorry...:D) which makes them look big!

Actually, the difference in size between a Leicaflex SL and a R5 isn't that huge, I guess the difference between a "classic R" (R4 to R7) and a R8/R9 is much more conspicuous...

Here a little proof:

I made a huge mistake getting a Leicaflex SL Mot that had a new prism installed a few years ago.

Now the R6.2 I got for my upcoming 'birds and bees' trip this fall just seems so blah. If the Leicaflex was a chick, I would be madly in love. I know that's a sexist statement, so I'll take myself behind the wood shed and spank myself. But the viewfinder on those Leicaflex SL and SL2, if you can find one in good shape, are as good as advertised.

My new camera. I was actually looking for an SL2, because of the more sensitive meter, but this camera had a new prism installed, and that was really the deciding factor. As a practical matter it looks like the meter on the SL will allow me to get any handheld shots I want.

I like this camera so much, I had no qualms about selling my backup M, and putting the R6.2 and ROM lenses on the market.

A head full of holes is nothing new to me, especially when it comes to Leica. To make matters worse, I belatedly realized that traveling down the Leicaflex road wasn't really needed. I jumped from the R6.2, because its' viewfinder blacked out w/ long telephoto lenses, and the only reason I was getting SLR equipment was to use long telephoto lenses. And now it struck me that all I had to do was change the focusing screen on the R6.2 from the split-image and it wouldn't black-out. And those focusing screens are still available from Leica.

Its been a fun trip anyway. As far as viewfinder screens for the Leicaflex, I parenthetically note that as of several years ago they were no longer available from Leica. That's third hand information.

I'm slow, but I always get there in the end, even if it takes me a bit longer then others.

Hi, Fernando,

I'm sorry that I don't know where it came from.

Two such cups were given to me at the same time -- this one, the R, and a matching one, strongly marked Leica, on which is depicted a timeline from Oscar B (I suppose) at 1913/14 and the original camera at 1925 to the Leica building at 1988 and a certificate at 1996 described as "Ein Stuck Leica." This timeline is backgrounded by some kind of graph. The cups are marked on the bottom as "Lichte Porcelin, Made in Germany."

Beyond this, I don't know about them. I have supposed that the were originally part of a set, possibly commemorative, put out in Germany (maybe by Leica), and that they are or were once available there. I also don't know how they turned up here in the US -- possibly via US Leica dealers -- but I have enjoyed them & am glad to have them.

These two are the only ones I've seen, and for all I know there was no larger commemorative set but only these. I suspect not, however, and would be happy to learn more.

One's morning coffee is often a special & personal thing -- one's own moment back from the grave of sleep and familiar flight deck of the future, so to speak -- and I have a few particular cups, these among my favorites, that I have around (one from the Frankfurt Book Fair), none that I would truly despair to lose. (Some variety in one's moments & special pleasures is important, too.)

Here's my current set-up.

3911127862_583f231f28.jpg

Leica MP with 35 Summilux ASPH

Leica R4S with 50 Summilux

I bought the R4S after I got my MP. Was using the Summilux-R lesn on my Canon 5dm2 previously. The R lens were what that got me started on Leica.

Love the current setup. Both cameras fit nicely in my Billingham L2 bag. Love the Gordy's straps too. I am in Heaven!
