krooj Posted 17 hours ago Share #3181 Posted 17 hours ago Advertisement (gone after registration) It'd be pretty neat if they gave focus confirmation with a simulated RF patch using PDAF on the sensor itself. You also have to wonder whether this model will somehow be able to adapt and drive L-mount lenses as well.
Advertisement Posted 17 hours ago Posted 17 hours ago Hi krooj, Take a look here EVF M rumoured. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
ALScott Posted 15 hours ago Share #3182 Posted 15 hours ago This may not be the best place for this but it is ultimately an EVF discussion. March will mark 2 years with my first Leica and camera with an EVF, a Q3. I feel like I have struggled a bit with the EVF on it and definitely with the Visoflex on the M11P. To me the Visoflex is almost useless. I have gotten used to estimating the frame without it when shooting with my 21 lux. I feel the Visoflex is completely useless for focusing. I am comfortable with the EVF in SL's but not with M lenses. The magnification is not helpful at all to me for tack sharp focus. Sure, it works for generally in focus but not nailing focus. I only feel confident using the RF on the M11P for tack sharp and the SL3's with SL lenses. So I can't see how a M EV whatever would be any benefit for me. If it would have a "field" or the like component that tells you focus was nailed, yes, without that, no for me. Also, focus peaking only seems horribly distracting to me. It also makes everything look like it's in focus. If anyone can give me pointers on the Visoflex and focus peaking I would very much appreciate it. I would love to have a reason to buy a M11 EVF. I really don't need that but wanting it for a legit reason would be fun. I will find some other crap to sell to fund it!!!
Derbyshire Man Posted 14 hours ago Share #3183 Posted 14 hours ago I don’t rate the visoflex 2 much either, without mag it’s hard to focus accurately and I find mag really distracting and buzzkilling. For some reason the EVF on my Canon R5mk2 is easier to focus but my guess is the 9mp Sony one would be best (I’ve never used it). To give yourself the best chance with visoflex/Q3 evf I’d recommend shooting in black and white high contrast, focus peaking red, lowest sensitivity. When the light and contrast is too low for me on an M (eye lashes with no contrast are a struggle!) the Q3 with AF does a better job than me with focus peaking and it’s the primary reason I have it, secondary one handed in bad weather. The only way that could happen is if the camera had a native L-Mount, with an M adapter. That's not ruled-out yet; nothing is until Leica makes an announcement.
la1402 Posted 9 hours ago Share #3187 Posted 9 hours ago Advertisement (gone after registration) So far it looks like just a M11 with an EVF and some SW algorithm that helps focussing. Most likely announced as beta Version with some Update in the future. Hhmm..

Early adopters / purchasers as per the M11 launch, good luck with that for all the memory impaired who are eagerly awaiting throwing their $$$$$/€€€€ in the M-EVF/whatever name it will be direction, what could possibly go wrong? lct Posted 8 hours ago Share #3189 Posted 8 hours ago This so-called memory impaired has been using M lenses with mirrorless cameras for 10+ years. Great experience with the M11 + EVF too. I don't remember my lost memories though 5

Well… technically it is possible to mount an L lens on an M body — you just need a metal saw to remove about 8 mm from the back of the lens to match the longer M-body flange distance... 1

FrozenInTime Posted 6 hours ago Share #3192 Posted 6 hours ago I’ve convinced myself Leica are going to play this EVF camera too conservatively. Given that I would always use it in conjunction with a rangefinder camera e.g. MP or M10 and 35 or 50mm Summilux lenses, it seems like for other purposes a small video capable mirrorless camera would offer more creativity. I might revisit the M-EV six months down the road, and see how everyone got on with it. Sort of like a TL2 on steroids., the Nikon ZR, can use M lenses e.g. on a typoch positive-lock M-Z adapter, and is capable of laying down 1.7 TB of raw 6k video data per hour; all with a fan-less M sized body; that seems quite an engineering achievement ( compared to merging a Q3 EVF into a M11 shell ). Anyone else looking to carry two M sized bodies with horizontal rather than vertical expansion of capabilities ?
lct Posted 5 hours ago Share #3193 Posted 5 hours ago I expect the EVF-M to be my workhorse camera and keeping the M11 when i need the RF experience, but carrying both i hardly see any reason why.
setuporg Posted 5 hours ago Share #3194 Posted 5 hours ago (edited) Just a regular reminder that an EVF-M is not really an M, because M means the opposite of EVF. I'm entirely unexcited about it, this whole long thread is sad, and you guys should be ashamed of yourselves for indulging this dastartdly bastardization of the Messucher. Also can we please get this stuff out of the M11 forum and into its own new forum, something like "Fake M (GFX100"RF", EVF-"M" etc.)"? (And here's a real big EVF for Leica!) I think most people have inadequate skills with zone or RF focusing (I'm poor, but getting better), so they are excited for a dedicated M camera with EVF. I agree, as speculated so far, I am not attracted to this camera. Now if it was an L-mount Q, then I would be game.

I never had problems focusing with the RF, but wearing my glasses I struggle to even see the 35mm frame lines. A zoom RF would make me very happy. Otherwise, I am curious what Leica can do with a pure EVF implementation.
