So I dusted off my M11 and updated to FW 2.1.1 to see if the magenta cast has improved.  Sadly it has not.  Shot the M11 and M10-R side by side with the APO 50 lens in sunlight both AWB and Sunny, and the M11 images are noticeably more magenta.

JPEGs or DNG? If DNG, which post processor and profile? Thanks.

I just completed the FW update and everything went smooth as silk.

It can be confusing though. The camera reads "The update is complete, Restart your camera", but the camera rear LED is still blinking orange. I left everything alone and after a minute or two, the camera did automatically restart. Which brings up another problem with Leica's FW update instructions. which clearly says;

" ATTENTION The SD card must be removed from the camera after the update and before the restart. Use a computer to format the SD card before reinserting it into the camera."

Please Leica, correct the PDF updating instructions or pull the FW 2.1.1 and correct the final verbiage shown. Be accurate and stop the potential for FW update errors.

I'm going to shoot some photos now!

I noticed this also. If you are supposed to remove the memory card before restart and reformat it in your computer, how do you do this if the camera automatically restarts after the update?

Adding to what I said above: the M11, despite all its shortcomings, is a VERY GOOD camera and has no analogues in terms of balance of ease of use and picture quality. It was brilliantly conceived. Unfortunately, the actual implementation was not at a high level (possibly due to the pandemic and the shortage of high-quality electronic components). That is why I have hopes for the M12, which I see as a systematic and thoughtful work on the mistakes of the previous model.

I have always used UHS-I SD cards in my M11-P. Everything went well. After updating to the new firmware 2.1.1, all UHS-I cards are no longer readable. There is an error message: Only UHS-II cards readable. This is really annoying if you have not had the opportunity to back up your pictures on other media. The Leica support did not answer to my question how to handle the problem.

The UHS-I cards are no longer readable in the camera after updating the firmware to 2.1.1.

This shouldn't be the case - have you tried reformating the cards in the camera (or your computer)before using them?

UHS-I cards work fine with 2.1.1 in my M11 Monochrom Camera.
I had problems with one of my two UHS-II cards which did not work at all, but was OK in all my other M cameras.
I always format the CD cards in the camera before starting to use them.

Maybe even better: SDFormatter. In general, it is wise not to switch cards between cameras. It leads to all kinds of problems.

Or different firmwares in this case it would seem. . . . I do understand this as there was an issue with the old firmware writing lots of hidden files . . . . which has been sorted apparently.

Well, writing a lot of hidden files would explain quite a few problems we have seen on the forum. And the discrepancy between people having those problems and those not. It can well be because of a difference in the card usage.

If it is only the magenta tint that bothers you, it is sufficient to reduce the value in Lightroom to +10 to +12.

This does not work on a series of frames, the tint differs within one walk/shoot

Why is this an issue? Just read the cards in a computer. How are you losing images?

Both my UHS1 and UHS2 cards work fine on my M11 with firmware 2.1.1 but i don't use much UHS1's TBH and i have never got such a message so far. Perhaps it is a difference between M11 & M11-P i don't know but if your card is not damaged, backing it up should not be a problem more so than with UHS2 cards IMO.

Perhaps someone should start a thread about what should lovingly be called The Magenta Concern--sounds like a decent spy movie.

Can we please get back to whether or not 2.1.1 fixed/improved/eliminated freeze issues or file corruption issues with the M11 series?

Cheers,

-Alex

My impression so far is the only issues (besides installation issues) are being reported by new accounts, and the issues presented have not been corroborated by others. Someone mentioned the German forum had some reporting issues, but I don’t know if those were from trusted members or not.

I’m actually glad this thread has gone off on a tangent. It means the firmware is stable for us so far :)

FWIW. I use the desktop app, SD Card Formatter to run an Overwrite Format ( full format) on my Sd Cards on a regular basis e.g., maybe once a quarter ish. Can be used to refresh older SD cards too. Once I do the full format with the desktop app, I then format the card in- camera before use.

Available for Mac/Windows here: https://www.sdcard.org/downloads/formatter/

No idea if this helps with whatever the Leica card issues were for some prior to v2.1.1  but at least I feel like I'm doing something to keep my SD cards fresh and operational as long as possible.
