I'm not sure if I'm misunderstanding, but on my Leica SL2-S when pressing the rear dial I can flick through the shooting modes with the latest firmware.

Unfortunately, my SL2 no longer works that way.  Depressing the thumbwheel brings up the list of functions that can be assigned to it. I can find no combination of depressing and rotating that allows Mode change.

Long press brings up the list of functions, as you have found. Select the first one: Photo-Video. Then you will find that you have Mode Change on that button.

Yes, this is confusing, but I can't remember if it was different in the last f/w version.

Thank you!

This works.  It is a change with firmware v6.0.  I did not have Photo-Video assignable to a function button.  Absent any documentation I would assume assigning Photo-Video to the thumbwheel would allow it to shift the camera between Photo and Video recording.  Who knew?  As I mentioned in a different post, Leica documentation is not to the standard of their cameras and lenses.

Exactly. I only found out because my setting for mode change was still there, so I could check which name on the list it referred to.

Update:

After changing the Mode using the thumbwheel I find that the SL2 is now in Video mode so I then have to change it back to Photo.  Still not desirable.

For some reason it now working properly without Photo-Video assigned to the thumbwheel. I'm happy but confused.  After the update to v6.0 I had some strange glitches which took a reset to clear.  One was function buttons performing a function different than the one assigned.  This seems to be another one, hopefully the last.

On the SL2-S, I re-assigned PASM to the thumbwheel after the last FW update. I first had to go into Customize Control > Fn Buttons to make sure that PASM was turned on (I have most of them turned off). Then a long press on the thumbwheel brought up the list of options, with PASM at the top of the list.

New with FW 6: I encountered a situation with my SL2-S where the display (viewfinder set to LCD) continued to update, but the camera would not respond to any button or to the on/off switch. The remedy was to remove the battery. After that, everything is fine, but I'm starting to wonder if there are some shared issues in the firmware code across current generation M and SL cameras?

Firmware v6.0 was the only update of the several I've installed on my SL2 that caused any problems.  It took two camera resets and some fiddling before it appeared to function properly.  By function properly I mean that the camera performed as expected rather than the weird behavior I was experiencing initially.

I am also seeing some inconsistency after fw6. If we have to reset the camera, is there a way to export your user profiles to the sd card and restore after the reset?

What exactly do you mean by "reset"?  If it means downgrading to a previous version, that is unfortunately not possible.

See the menu option "Reset Camera" (instruction manual p 258).

You've caught me. I did go through the manual, but I paused at page 250 😄. Despite >14 years of experience on this forum, there's still room for learning. 👍

You must export your user profiles before doing a reset.  The reset returns the body to the factory default settings.

Menu > User Profiles > Manage Profiles > Export  (edit: ah, I guess too late as you already lost the profiles, sorry)

Like others here, with prolonged use over time, I've spent a great deal of effort, trial & error to set my cameras up so that they function optimally  for my work. I'm not going to let a half-baked FW update screw that up. This is ridiculous, surely sufficient testing for glitches should be done before FW is released.

After reading through 10 pages of issues here, I'm staying away from this upgrade for both my SL2 & SL2-S.
