When I select HC Mono in JPG Settings, that selection changes my DNG to HC Mono.

Where are you seeing this? I don't have the Q3, but I have just run this scenario with my Q2. When I click Import in LR Classic and select the SD card, it shows the thumbnail as a monochrome image (as I would expect - it's the same image that you see in the EVF/LCD, embedded in the DNG). But if I import that file, it displays immediately in colour. Does it not do that with the Q3? If it still shows as mono in full screen after import, what Adobe profile is it using?

Do you know if Leica made any improvements to the q2 lens cap in the q3?

It has been mentioned in various posts on the forum. In a nutshell, the Q3 lens cap is most certainly not going to fall off.

Actually, there is no other way to do it. You get a color DNG and a JPG with the "style" preset that you chose. That is the only option. If you are shooting RAW + JPG, and you have HC Mono selected, then you are getting exactly what you describe: a color DNG and an HC mono JPG natively, in camera.

The camera displays the JPG version of the image you shot when you review the image. If you choose the HC Mono style for your JPG, then that is what the camera will display back to you. You cannot choose a color style and then have it display the standard raw file instead, because the camera only displays the JPG.

The DNG is always color, because it's the raw sensor data, and it's a color sensor. When your raw converter (Capture One, Lightroom, etc..) converts the DNG to an image that you can see, it may recognize that you chose a certain style for your JPG and then present a version of the DNG that matches your JPG. If this is happening for you, then it is entirely a function of the raw converter, and that is where you need to configure your desired options, not on the camera. You should be able to tell whatever raw converted software you use to display the standard color DNG, irrespective of whatever jpg style/look you chose in camera. Tp2000 provided the instructions to do this in Lightroom earlier.

Rest assured, you are always getting a color DNG. If you choose to shoot RAW + JPG, then you'll get your color DNG and whatever version of the JPG style you choose. That is the only way this works, and there is no possibility of your DNG image data being influenced by the JPG style you chose in the camera.

That's really helpful, Brandon!  Thanks so much!!  What I was trying to do was get the raw DNG in color and a JPG in HC Mono on to the SD card native from the Q3.  That's the part that seem not possible...or, I am just too  thick to "get it"!  Ha!

The confusing part is is when I select HC Mono in the JPG settings, my EVG and monitor now only show mono, not color.  Make sense to you.  Brandon?

The camera can't display DNGs, it can only display an in-camera JPG generated from the DNG file. It does this even if you have only selected DNG, i.e.no JPG. To do this it uses the film style that you have selected, in your case HC Mono.

To do what you want the camera would need the ability for you to choose two styles, one for the DNG and one for the JPG (although I guess it could default to the Standard style by default). This would need additional processing and the ability to choose which Style you wanted to view. This would be very confusing I think. Note that most, if not all, cameras work this way.

If you shoot DNG and JPG, the DNG will always (!) have the color information, even if you set black and white for the JPG. Only the display (!) is black and white, because a small JPG is integrated into the DNG as a preview image, which shows the same as the large, separately saved JPG. The camera cannot separate DNG and JPG. Once you import the files into Lightroom, Lightroom creates a new, separate thumbnail for the DNG file. Lightroom doesn't use the black and white JPD as a guide, so the preview image in Lightroom is in color. You can see this if you pay attention during the import. On the filmstrip, it suddenly jumps from color to black and white. That's the sign that Lightroom has now generated its own preview image.

As long as you guys are in the mood, I will ask another...

I have been fooling around with menus, editing favorites and function buttons and the like.  No making images at all.  I noticed the camera was warm to the touch and the battery drained in about two (2) hours.  This all seem normal?  I don't remember my Q or Q2 reacting that way...or, at my age, I just don't remember!!

I have always found that setting up a camera and menus, with both EVF and LCD in use almost continually, drains the battery quickly, with any camera. I tend to assume that the setting up process uses up a battery, and I need a second battery to then go out and take pics.

That make me feel better, Hero.  My second battery is arriving Wednesday.  Recharging my original with a cup of coffee.  Patience is a virtue, right??  Many thanks to everyone!!

I have been doing much the same as you and, using the LCD for convenience, noticed that the camera does get quite warm. I suspect it's nothing unusual when working extensively in that manner.

That is my experience as well.

I've noticed this as well.

Another thing I've noticed is that the camera makes a fair amount of electrical noise. You can only hear it in a quiet room or if you hold it close to your ear. This isn't uncommon on cheaper electronics, but I would expect better from a camera this expensive. My Sony cameras don't do this, nor does my MacBook, iPad, phone etc.

Does anyone else notice this?

That's great to hear and thank you! Man I really didn't want to buy a q3 lol as I still really like my q2 but that lens cap fall off thing is so annoying. Maybe if I buy the new lens shade and q3 lens cap for my q2 I can fix the problem 🤓
