Leica Q3 Firmware V 2.0.1 (merged)
Stephen_C replied to jps1's topic in Leica Q3 / Leica Q2 / Leica Q
For those having apparent problems with user profiles I thought it might be worth repeating something I posted a long time ago (after a very helpful exchange of correspondence with Leica technical department). Please note I'm not denying some people are having problems after upgrading to the new firmware but merely felt it might be helpful to repeat this (having failed to find my original post using the forum search!): If you select a User Profile and modify it it is not marked with an x on the status scree. Rather, on that screen, the user profile number on the icon disappears. If you check the current profile in the full menu it will show Active if a profile has been selected and not modified. Otherwise it does not show Active. The profile marked with an x on the status screen is actually the Cancel function to get you out of the menu. If you set a User Profile, modify a setting then turn off the camera and then turn it on again you start up with exactly the same settings (i.e., the modified User Profile). Edit: I've not yet had the chance to check whether any of that iconography has changed with the latest firmware update. Stephen -
Leica Q3 Firmware V 2.0.1 (merged)

I am indeed well aware of that. What I don't know is what checks FOTOS and the camera make to ensure the firmware update file is fully and correctly transferred. Stephen -
Leica Q3 Firmware V 2.0.1 (merged)
Stephen_C replied to jps1's topic in Leica Q3 / Leica Q2 / Leica Q
Thank you. I did try (and succeed) with the previous firmware update (i.e., using FOTOS). I still much prefer the method of putting the file on an SD card and updating that way—not relying on unbroken communication between phone and camera. I don't believe I'm alone in that. In the circumstances I shan't delete my quoted post. 😄 Stephen -

For those (like me) who prefer to install from a download put on an SD card in the camera the download is now live on the Leica site (scroll down the page to see it). Stephen -
I really like this. The superb cloud formation adds so much to the photo. Stephen

Of course one of the joys of the Q3 for landscape work is not having an interchangeable lens. When I did landscape work with Canons in inhospitable parts of the world I got very tired of having to clean the sensor frequently (and, often, rather ineffectively). Naturally the pay-off is living with 28mm but I can take that—especially given the pleasure of carrying the Leica compared to the weight of the old Canon gear. Stephen

Thank you. Stephen

I have very recently posted three exampless on the Landscape and Travel forum: here, here and here so (making allowance for the fact there are much better landscape photographers than I) you can form your own view. My personal view is that the Q3 is wonderful for landscape work. Stephen

Leica Q3 images - Post them here
Stephen_C replied to mhasman's topic in Leica Q3 / Leica Q2 / Leica Q
Iguaçu falls (Brazil side): Q3, ISO 100, 1/125, f/5.6 And, yes, I did walk out to the end of that walkway and got thoroughly drenched! There was an unusually high volume of water over the falls. There is a rather better photo from the Argentine side here on the Landscape & Travel forum. Stephen -
Thank you: yes, we stayed on the Brazlian side and did the falls' wallk there too. There was an exceptional amount of water coming over the falls. Stephen

Having moved from a Q2 to a Q3 when the Q3 first came out my views are: The tilt screen is fantastically useful for landscape work (which is my main interest) as well as for street (which I don't do very much). The auto-focus is, I think, very much improved over the Q2 and works especially well for people photography (with a slight caveat if there are many people in the shot). I don't do video so can't comment on that but, overall, for me the Q3 is a very significant improvement over the Q2 and I'm extremely happy with it (including the extra resolution). I have no issues with the start-up time (which I understand has bothered some others). In passing, after photographing Iguaçu falls this morning in drenching spray I can also vouch for the weather-proofing. 😀 Stephen

Thank you.

Thanks—that is very kind, although I'm sure you're downplaying your photos. 😀 Stephen

Leica Q3 Waitlist/Stock/Shipment
Stephen_C replied to nariza7's topic in Leica Q3 / Leica Q2 / Leica Q
As I've commented before elsewhere on this forum one thing that seems to make a significant difference to Q3 battery consumption is whether or not you have paired the camera with your phone using the FOTOS app. I deleted the pairing and battery life immediately improved significantly—particularly when I was not using the camera (the rate of discharge of the battery while the camera was not being used then dropped to virtually nothing). Transfer user profile to Q3 from settings.lcs file ?

Yes—I agree with all of that, Corius. It's exactly what Leica software support indicated to me (together with the aspirational improvements mentioned in the thread in which is the post to which I previously linked). Stephen
