mikebidwell Posted June 23, 2010 Share #361 Posted June 23, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi there thanks for your reply but thinking about it I'm sure I didn't swap lenses outdoors when taking the images. In fact this image of the 'Pew End' below was actually taken immediately before the one posted earlier which is a bad image. I took another 24 exp film this morning which contains images from the Norway trip and it will be interesting to see what they are like. Best wishes Mike Just got the other 24 exp film back and there was one image #11A which looked like this yet the other one immediately #10A in front of it is like this. The only thing I can see is that with the bad image I was almost shooting directly into the sun so could it be lens flare. I really don't know. Regards Mike Welcome, dear visitor! aauckland Posted June 23, 2010 Share #362 Posted June 23, 2010 OK Mike, but remember the light leak can occur by lens changing post taking the image. I assume these effects are clearly visable on the negatives?

aauckland Posted June 23, 2010 Share #365 Posted June 23, 2010 Thank you Mike, If you haven't changed the lens pre or post exposure, then you could get a similar effect by carrying the camera without a lens cap, with its aperture open wide, (outdoors, in bright sunlight.) The more I look at your images, the more convinced I become that you have a light leakage issue. As well as the single frame test I eluded to in an earlier post, you can do a physical check if you have a darkroom? , plus a small torch and towel, (for masking around the torch as it is placed into the lens throat.) mikebidwell Posted June 23, 2010 Share #366 Posted June 23, 2010 OK Mike, but remember the light leak can occur by lens changing post taking the image. I assume these effects are clearly visable on the negatives? Yep very clear but on this last roll the 50mm Summicron was on the body all of the time, I never took it off at all. Regards Mike
Stealth3kpl Posted June 26, 2010 Share #367 Posted June 26, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) I got my first films back from the pro lab. I love the colours in this shot. I think the light streak is a reflection in the mirror. I put a couple of poppy shots in the photo forum. Who needs to spend £5000 on an M9?! Pete Welcome, dear visitor! mikebidwell Posted July 6, 2010 Share #368 Posted July 6, 2010 Thank you Mike, If you haven't changed the lens pre or post exposure, then you could get a similar effect by carrying the camera without a lens cap, with its aperture open wide, (outdoors, in bright sunlight.) As well as the single frame test I eluded to in an earlier post, you can do a physical check if you have a darkroom? , plus a small torch and towel, (for masking around the torch as it is placed into the lens throat.) Since my last post things have moved on, I went back to the dealer from whom I bought my M6 and apparently it was still under the guarantee from when I bought it from him. He sent the negs and prints to Leica UK and they believe as you its a light leakage problem so the body is now back with them for investigation/repair. So all I can do now is await results. TryFocusing Posted July 6, 2010 Share #369 Posted July 6, 2010 I recently had a light leak repaired on my '87 M6 and it now performs perfectly. The issue was a simple replacement of black fabric baffle inside the top and bottom of the rear film pressure plate door. Good your dealer was able to step up and help.
