Anbaric Posted October 6, 2022 Share #503 Posted October 6, 2022 (edited) According to my sources, Leica will in an unusual marketing strategy be teaming up with Kodak to give away an M6 with every 50-pack of Portra. In other news, the price of Portra will be rising to £100 per roll by the end of the month, and only 1000 rolls will be available globally this year. If you mean a NOS original M6, then no. If you mean the new/rumored M6, then they're the same camera so, again, no. Edit: If the 'new' M6 is the MP but has the classic Leica engraving on the top, then I'd prefer it over the MP. mattcheol Posted October 7, 2022 Share #511 Posted October 7, 2022 Do you guys think that the fact that the Leica Instagram account has recently been posting Film Friday posts with the #minilux hashtag means anything? or are we just convinced at this point that it will be another M6 re-release? To be fair there has been some #M6 tags thrown in as well... Personally, I would love a true upgrade. Like a faster max shutter speed, or a significant change to the body, but ofc Leica being Leica, they probably won't do this. If it is a reiteration of a minilux I'd welcome this as well though because I feel a point and shoot is a great entry point for the people who might want to get into Leica as a brand and/or want to get into film photography either for the first time, or for the first time in a long time. Not going to happen, but wouldn't it be great if Leica did similar to what Nikon did with the FM3A? The FM3A was released in the early 2000's, right around the digital takeover and certainly well after everything became AF, and yet they chose to release a MF camera. But the camera was not simply a re-iteration of an old body, it was basically the best manual focus film SLR Nikon ever made, with I believe the world's only full hybrid shutter that was electronically controlled and offered Aperture Priority with batteries but also allowed for ALL shutter speeds to work fully mechanically without power, whereas the Nikon F3 or the Leica M7 for instance only offered 1 or 2 "rescue" shutter speeds if there was no available power. As a film shooter, I feel like anything film oriented by Leica will be good for the hobby though in general... I still dread the day when film dies.

Huss Posted October 7, 2022 Share #514 Posted October 7, 2022 If it is just an M6 then I don’t get it. Leica already doesn't make enough MPs to satisfy the market and the M6 would just be a renamed MP. So they would be selling the same thing with a different name next to that same thing. But it will be an instant collector's item--rarely used but often resold at a higher price. So, they can charge pretty much whatever the market will bear. Presumably a "new" M6 would have the fast rewind crank and ergonomically improved film advance lever of the original M6...so, kinda different from the current MP...no? I think some folks would prefer these improvements over the arguably less functional retro styling of the MP...idk. I don't see any point to such a thing being priced less than the current MP however. That seems to be silly fantasy. Unfortunately, I suspect that no matter what Leica do (or don't do) Leica Fanboys will bitch and find some reason to nit-pick the new thing to deeeth
BradS Posted October 7, 2022 Share #518 Posted October 7, 2022 (edited) It occurs to me that the MP was introduced in...what 2003? I suspect that Leica may be forced to redesign the electronics due to the non-availability of obsolete electronic components. That would make it an ideal time for them to also introduce something "slightly different" ??? This might also explain why they allegedly have people testing something that might otherwise look like an MP or M6 as opposed to some all new innovative thing. I mean the entire engraving, including the 'Leica Camera AG' bit, not just the script logo. Silly, I know, but I think the top plate looks a bit too empty without it. Welcome, dear visitor!
