Unless I can read a report where where someone actually does physical measurements on power, power draw, charging, etc on the M11 batteries, I won't bother with judging its made in China label based on some prejudiced reasoning.

I agree. There are so many of these bricked red light of death M11’s that I wonder if some of the batteries have issues. I just wonder who is making their batteries. I would rather they said Panasonic on them. Maybe they wouldn’t have this problem. I’m just speculating. But who knows what it is. The Chinese battery is an easy target.

Yes, China is a very easy target for criticism...

Leica is not a battery manufacturer but it is responsible for the batteries it sells under its name. Leica has no obligation whatsoever to disclose the names of its subcontractors. Same for lenses that carry the Leica name but are not manufactured by Leica. There is nothing new in this.

I hear a lot of repeated internet jabber about "all these bricked M11s".  I wish some of the repeated nonsense would either be corroborated or silenced.  I have heard of a few, mostly from the release period.  Since firmware upgrades have occurred, the the updates installed, I would like to hear from anyone who has had a bricked camera.  I've not had a single issue with mine, and I don't know anyone (and of course I don't know that many M11 users because there just aren't that many) who has had an issue.  If YOU have had a bricked camera that was frozen and not able to be returned immediately to proper usage, please post up and provide your serial number. You can, if you're a nervous interneter leave off the last number.  However I would like to see if any of these bricked issues are due to a small batch w/ internal issues, or a greater problem.  This entire thread has been a constant source of innuendo and regurgitated lore from third-source, at best, anecdotes.

I think the issue has been widely discussed and accredited. In my case Leica Spain eventually did the right thing and replaced the camera. The new firmware seems to much more stable so far. I am happy for the mods to close this thread if they see fit as my original reason for opening it has been addressed and am happy to report that the M11 is a stonking great camera now that all is working as it should.

Excellent batteries are made in Japan. Probably by Panasonic. Who Leica work with.

Wonder why the batteries aren’t Japanese?

I have Panasonic batteries made in China as well. Not sure what difference it may make actually.

On arrival back home yesterday from a shoot, I switched on my camera to review images on the back screen... and nothing. RLOD. Turned it off. RLOD. Had to pull the battery and reboot. Just a scare. The camera turned on and was back to normal. I think there is something seruiously wrong with the M11 as a platform.

This is considered freezes, well once it works by pulling the battery out, it’s still oke.. as long as it powered back on, this is what has been happening, only less frequent since the latest updates which allegedly fix it

Yes, it’s infinitely less severe than getting bricked but OP’s right, there’s too many bugs on the M11. And the latest firmware doesn’t allegedly fix it, just one (or some) causes of freezes, but there are still many others.

People have been saying that freezes are affecting a minority of cameras, but I feel like it’s affecting the majority (to different extent). We have so many examples of people getting freezes on their 2nd or 3rd body.

I just sent back my own M11 and waiting for the replacement but I’m not optimistic.

Yeah dont expect too much, you’d be disappointed and i agree with OP’s claim something seriously wrong at the moment with m11 platform.. but i see improvements over previous firmware.. at least it’s a progress… and bear in mind, each m11 seemed to develop different if not no issues at all.. so yeah keep finger crossed it got better over time with fix n updates

There is a 58 page (and still growing) thread on this and other issues near the top of the M11 section on this forum.  Issue continues to this day, even after the latest firmware (1.61) designed to resolve the issue.

To be fair, bricked != frozen. The latter can be fixed by poping out the battery. I haven’t heard of any brickage in the recent months.

Your statement is false. There is no post regarding freezes after 1.61. Possibly because it’s new. But accuracy matters.

Yes, accuracy does matter.  Perhaps you should read the last couple of pages of that thread.  Just for accuracy's sake.
