Richard368 Posted July 4, 2022 Share #1 Posted July 4, 2022 Advertisement (gone after registration) Bought a Leica Q, works with an old san disk 32gb card, but upgraded to Sandisk 128gb extreme pro 170mb SDXC but got an error message that Mac OS thought disk was damaged and needed repairing, I could still download photos in lightroom. Tried disk utility but didn’t do anything. Returned and replaced with new Lexar professional 128gb 250mb same message again, tried reformatting, different cameras (Nikon 750) and different Mac; same scary error message ( even after OS upgrade). Is there something in the way a Leica formatting an SD card I need to know? Any help appreciated
Advertisement Posted July 4, 2022 Posted July 4, 2022 Hi Richard368, Take a look here Leica Q - Mac OS compatibility with new SD card. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
jaapv Posted July 4, 2022 Share #2 Posted July 4, 2022 No, Leica does nothing special. But if you wish you can format the card in SD formatter and use the card as-is in the camera without further format. It is however possible that you stumbled on a fake card. SrMi Posted July 4, 2022 Share #3 Posted July 4, 2022 Maybe try a different SD card reader.
Richard368 Posted July 4, 2022 Author Share #4 Posted July 4, 2022 Two new SD cards with the same damaged message seems really strange to me.
Richard368 Posted July 4, 2022 Author Share #5 Posted July 4, 2022 Could try reader, or perhaps try and link from another camera. Thanks for options.
T25UFO Posted July 4, 2022 Share #6 Posted July 4, 2022 Are you using the SD card slot in the Mac? Also, how old is your Mac? I had a similar problem. The SD card slot reads smaller capacity cards but not the newer faster cards. My iMac is 2017, ancient by today’s standards. I now use a Sandisk card reader that plugs into the USB C slot and it works fine with all cards.
Richard368 Posted July 4, 2022 Author Share #7 Posted July 4, 2022 Advertisement (gone after registration) Yep I reckon a 2017 2018 Mac, using a lexar professional card reader into the usb c slot, the card reader is old….but maybe the Mac even with the new OS is just playing up. As I say I can get the photos and the error message is perhaps erroneous…
Richard368 Posted July 5, 2022 Author Share #8 Posted July 5, 2022 just tried camera direct into Mac, after new mac giving same message with SD car reader, and this time no error message. Must be old card reader so have ordered san disk direct USB c, thanks all for input. will see how it goes tomorrow
Mikep996 Posted July 8, 2022 Share #9 Posted July 8, 2022 "My iMac is 2017, ancient by today’s standards" I have a 2015 MacBook Air which reads the Sandisc Extreme 128 GB card in my Q2 with no issue at all.
Chris W Posted July 9, 2022 Share #10 Posted July 9, 2022 I have definitely had issues with card readers in the past. I'm using the Apple USB-C dongle SD card reader at the moment with no issues. Otherwise I would connect the camera directly to the computer. And I always clean reformat the card after every file transfer and I do it in camera.
