The whole point of an M is that it is an imprecise mechanical device and you have to fight for every shot. Making it easier with every iteration is basically just killing the Leica M.

Been hearing this for 40+ years. For some people the Leicameter was too modern then. It is not because rangefinders have a rangefinder that they cannot be modern cameras.

It is the same issue as the Leicameter. You can use the aids if you need them but you are not forced to use them of course. Like the Leicameter exactly. You can use your M camera the same way as you (or at least i...) did last century. Nothing has been lost since then.

The Visoflex 2 is just another Visoflex we got since the fifties. It's just you who dislike the progress the same way as other people did not like the Leicameter, the Leica motor winder, 75mm frame lines, TTL metering, AE with the M7, etc. etc. Déjà vu sorry.

........you buy the Leica that works for you and stick to it........ I could care less what Leica M12 is going to be like.

My sentiments exactly.  I am happy with my M10, and I'm also happy with my M8.2, and I don't see much point in updating.  Having said that, I just took two trips recently with only my Nikon D750 and two zooms, and my photography was better than had I brought the Leica cameras - many photos were birds and animals.

I don't belong in this discussion.  Heck, instead of buying a new Leica film camera to leave in my desk drawer, I had my M3 updated, so it can sit in my desk drawer.

For that matter, I have zero interest in buying the new Nikon mirrorless things, which mean also replacing all my lenses.  I prefer my D750 to all of the new stuff, which I think is being pushed so hard right now just to get people to buy new cameras and lenses, when their old gear is perfectly adequate.

Back to Leica, to survive as a company, they need to sell more product, but that doesn't imply that us users need to replace what we have now (unless we just want to have the latest).

The D850 will go down as the greatest DSLR ever made. D750 was very popular.

I know the D850 has better specs, but it's also bigger and heavier, while the D750 is just the right size for me.

My M10 (and even my M8.2) are perfect for me, and a lot simpler to use than my Nikons.

Not a word about crop formats. Aside from medium format, the market seen by Leica is divided into full frame, for pros and enthusiasts, and smartphones for casual photogs.

« today's situation (...) is also relatively stable in which mirrorless full-frame segment is growing rapidly (whereas) the development at that time with the digital compact cameras went up at breakneck speed and then again as well fast down. It follows that photography is aimed at the photo enthusiasts and professionals turns, while the casual photographer who used to buy a compact camera were content with the photo and video functions in smartphones today. »

Crop in the modern sense is only used when it is a selectable option. [Once we had a physically cropped M].

If 'standard' no one will mention it. I say it because my Lumix S5 is exactly 6000*4000. So I infer, there must be some software cropping/remapping/downscaling going on. The miraculous fit of pixel counts and sizes in mm (or BoJo Imperial Inches) does not fit in my understanding of production.

My M8.2 Leica has a cropped format, as Leica hadn't yet learned how to capture the full image on a sensor as large as their 35mm film cameras.  I didn't want to trade it in towards a M9 long ago, and then bought the M10 - but also kept, and use, my M8.2 body.

In today's world, maybe "crop sensor" is the wrong term.  For Fuji, it's their standard sensor.  For me "full frame" is easier, as it's the same as all my old film cameras had.  But when I'm looking through the viewfinder, it's irrelevant (to me).

That's why I'm saying it. Here, everyone always wants more. Why?

Because we are victims of growing economies with ´round the clock marketing which makes us think we always need the latest and greatest.

No matter if we talk about cameras, cell phones, e-bikes, cars, clothes, food ...

And I bet 95% of people buying the new cameras (I am one of them) do certainly know that it will not improve the photographs in a really relevant way;

Actually, I think I want "less".  My Nikon DSLR has "more"; much more.  By comparison, my M10 is "less", and maybe that's why it seems "simpler".  The simplest of course is film.

My life is already too cluttered.  The M10 does a great job of allowing me to capture what I want.  My D750 does this even better, correction for what it thinks I want, and usually it is right.  It's more work on my part to get the M10 to do what I want, even if I'm wrong.

Maybe a M12 monochrome with black/white OVF .....

The M12 should be a digital version of the MD-2 - no EVF or OVF.

That way, everyone will have something to complain about and the entire Leicaverse will then be "happy." 😃

The M12 should be a digital version of this, but with IBIS, of course:

Yeah, and it would be just a limited usefulness as the MD.

this body came with the Leica duplication table just like a film back, really useless for anything else, no finder and no lightmeter.
