What bothers me a little is that in the month I had the Silver M11, the bottom plate had a slightly different texture and feel from the top plate. Now I'm beginning to doubt myself. But yeah, great news at least that it's breath both top and bottom.

I have been obsessed with brasses.. and for once I wasn’t in doubt it was at least same materials, but reading early report post here made me so much in doubts that led me to keep looking for the right source 😂

I'd go for the black one again and again! Was struggling with the black or silver decision before and eventually went for the black one due to personal uncertainty whether at a certain point, I dislike silver and want to go back to black (coming from an black M10P). For me, if in doubt, black is always the first choice :) and, after I experienced the weight difference and the feel of the black finish for half a year, I (my personal opinion, don't get me wrong) cannot understand how someone can go for the silver merely to have that "hefty silver brass blabla" feel. Of course, as a real armchair leicaman, justifiable, but if you really go out and shoot, I don't get how one could ever want a heavier camera body than necessary :)

used to the heft of brass, adding m11 just feel something most familiar and i felt more stable holding it, and i love the combination silver lens with silver body, that's me 😊

Can you give it a break please and provide some constructive participation in the forum... Hope a moderator can step in.

I think I recognize Musky's MO from previous incursions, though he is now much more restrained. I hope I am wrong.

Black. Old thread but, I guess, I never answered.  A camera, in this case a M11, is a tool and with this tool, there is no benefit to weight.  So, for me, the obvious choice was black because it is lighter.  Since there's no difference between the two, other than color/weight, lighter wins for me.  I'm also certainly not choosing a lens because it matches or clashes with the body finish.  If I need "X" lens, I'm calling my dealer and getting the best price possible - regardless of finish.  Similarly, one of the extra batteries I purchased is silver finished and I couldn't care less.

Possible.  I was just over at DPReview and he joined today and immediately posted 10 trolling posts against the M11.  ???

Very likely. It seems that he has been kicked out from this forum, again.

Wow I can’t believe this debate is still going on, are people still seriously debating the attributes or the benefits of Brass over Aluminum in 2023 ?
.. the only advantage Brass has over Aluminuim is actually wasted on a chrome body. The only benefit to a brass top and bottom  plate  is how a BLACK PAINTED CAMERA  looks when it gets worn down and patinas, which is subjective and I happen to really like it. But other then that there is no other advantage at all and like I said it is wasted on a chrome body.

Yes, but what about jackdaws? They love shiny things, so I wouldn't feel safe leaving a silver M11 lying around in case they nicked it!!

The advantage of the black paint finish is that when one is taking photos outdoors in bright sunlight the markings on the black paint bodies and lenses show up easily making the markings easier to read; whereas with the silver bodies and lenses the markings are difficult to read in bright sunlight.

I can absolutely second that. Last summer I was in Sicily, really hot, with a siver M11 and a black M10 Monochrom. Even when it was really hot, the silver M11 always felt cool in my hands, much cooler than the actual temperatures suggested. On the other hand the black M10 Mono heated up very easily, so I usually stowed it in my bag. I would never have thought that the difference had been so obvious! Same with the lenses, my silver (brass) Summilux 50 always felt kind of cool, whereas my other lenses (black anodized) heated up quickly.

As for the jackdraws, seeing my silver camera people usually thought it was an old film camera, not worth nicking, but good for opening up a conversation. My black M10 Monochrom (and M10-R) on the other hand always prompted stealthy looks...
