very anxious to see whether leica can implement a digital zoom worth using. the new status screens sounds interesting as panasonic has a very good implementation of such a screen and you can practically drive the camera from it all day long without touching the menus.

tks for the heads-up. downloading now--must be an overseas server and everyone is banging it. :)

This was the email notification I received, btw:

You speak. We listen. You can now further optimize the performance of your Leica CL system. Firmware version 4.0 brings the innovation of the status screen menu interface found in the Leica SL2 and Q2 to your Leica CL system. This new update also includes improvements that extend other performance components including digital zoom, copyright metadata info, and more.

Just added copyright data to be embedded. Nice add. Like the status screen for still imaging too.

Toggled over to the video status screen for a couple of seconds. Probably the only time it'll ever see the light of day, LOL...

be aware this update reset everything, defaulted to berlin time zone. can't be sure yet whether it reset my function assignments, but it reset all my photo style tweaks. i'll have to start from scratch to make sure i get everything.  i had to restart the camera twice, not just once, to get any image on the lcd or evf.

the new info section seems nice, but the icons below it mean absolutely nothing to me. and the price of it is now you're going to have to hit the /menu/ key 3x, not just twice.

and ditto on the video status screen. :)

and why wouldn't  they have fixed the universal complaint about the wandering focus point? it doesn't bother me because i've turned off the touch function, but it's the first thing new users mention.

I was offered the option to save my user settings before the update began.  And it worked.

My profiles has been kept as usual. Only manual thing to do is pics renumbering as usual too. The copyright preset is handy as on other cameras. Otherwise i can't seem to see significant changes aside from the front page of the menu. I only use manual lenses though.

you know what, i did say yes to saving profiles, but i thought it meant in the future. i'll have to look to see if the one i was using was saved although i can't remember the last time i backed it up.

[...]

hey, thank you! i would never have thought of that. i had to import them back into the camera and luckily i had stored one that seems like the last setting i used. i knew something was amiss when, after the update, i had the histogram on the screen and no grid lines.

thanks! /guy

Still the same issue of  the frame number continuation ! I tried to catch up with my files, but I went too high!... Now, I am wondering if I can go back in numbers! lol

Not very fond of the new menu, though!....

Does it provide this menu of the SL2/Q2 now?

Installed fw4.0.

Everything seems to work as described. No problems with the update. I don't know that the "quick view" or whatever they call it control screen is all that useful to me. I only use manual focus lenses so anything that doesn't affect them is mostly irrelevant to me.

Nice to see Leica continuing to develop the CL firmware. :D

I downloaded the new FM but still no fix for the wandering focus point. I’m also assuming that this FM update means the CL2 is not going to land anytime soon.

To me this means that the CL2 IS going to land at some time i.e. the CL series is an ongoing product for Leica and not about to terminate as some have speculated. Among other things, the digital zoom will be more useful on a future camera with more pixels to play with.

what's the deal with renumbering? does this mean that the first image i take now will be 001? how do i run it back up to where it was as this will play holy heck with my archive schema for offloading card images.

tks, /guy

There is probably a simpler way but here is mine FWIW.
Assuming your last pic file is 1030746.
Remove the card having that file on it and insert a blank card instead.
Main menu 4 > Reset Image numbering > Yes. Then take one pic and the camera will create a 1000001 file.
Redo the process three times until the camera creates a 1030001 file.
Now switch your camera off, remove the blank card, insert your original card, switch the camera on and the numbering should follow 1030746 exactly.

This is a serious issue, at least for me. Every time you update the FW, numbering of the frames starts from “1”. I prefer the continuation for the filing. Therefore, you have to change the numbering by hand. This time, I went a little too high and screw up the right continuation, and can’t go back to correct.! 🧐🤔😖

before you updated, did you guys  have yours set to reset the number when a new card was put in? because my card had image #s up to L0000395 and when i took a test shot without changing anything i got L0000396 just as i wanted. and i can't remember having any problems with this since i got the camera and i've updated at least 2x now.
