I think that they should use Q2 body
It is slightly taller than CL one. But hopefully it should be big enough to house : IBIS + mechanical shutter + 26MP APS-C sensor + L-mount + BP-SCL4 battery + weather sealing + 3.6M dots EVF.

I also hope that Leica will also release a kind of Pro TL lens alongside.
Something like a TL 16-70mm f/2.8 weathersealed should be great.

I hate to say it but that Leicarumors post looks more like speculation based on an amalgamated wishlist from this thread, rather than an informed rumour.

As to size: no higher, no wider, no heavier AFAIC. This is Leica's original Barnack in modern form, not a cut down M or Q. I would accept a slightly fatter body if it permitted IBIS, because it makes little difference in the hand or occupying bag space.

They will have to. The question is, does the camera then still appeal to those who like the CL among other things for its size.

If I want a full frame sized body, then I'll use my FF system. If i want a smaller camera I'll use my CL. If the CL2 is chunky as my FF, then it's pointless for my needs.

On the positive side, I read somewhere that cameras will continue to operate exactly as they have previously even after a new version has been released. This gives me confidence that the shame of obsolescence won't cause my CL to brick itself and we can continue to enjoy each other's company.

They cannot. The Q2 body is built around an integrated - thus compact-   lens-sensor unit. A totally different design principle than an exchangeable lens camera.

Dear Leica,
please make us a mini SL2 with IBIS & weather sealing. Still with APS-C sensor within the CL body.

From what I see on Leica Rumours, it looks like you’re about to get your wishes.

The Q2 is an FF camera. Not sure why it should inspire the CL2 in any way.

Because Leica is already using a modified Q body for the CL. Except top case, which is different : shorter than Q one.
You can even use Q handgrip on CL. It’s handle is just slightly too tall, by hitting strap lug. Otherwise it is fine.

So the idea is now to keep the same body, including the same height as Q2. For storing the extra electronics.

Actually Leica has two means to achieve economy of scale :
- using a modified Q2 body. Just like CL is a shorter version of Q.
- using a modified SL2 body. Way shorter, no grip. SL2 slightly thicker body should be enough to house IBIS and BP-SCL4 battery.

Modifying Q2 body should be easier. But not sure if it can house a bigger battery, IBIS and a shutter mechanism. Even in APS-C size.

Of course, we don’t know how the CL2 will be. But we can still try go guess it.

For the CL, Leica was ready to use more than 50% of Q body : same belt (same width, same thickness, same rounding), same battery door, same battery, same screen, same D-Pad, etc...

They just make the CL shorter with another top case. Then switch full frame sensor with APS-C one and shutter mechanism. And add a proper lens mount.

So how CL2 will be ? Still based on Q2 ? Or going to another direction ?

Yes, or they just modernized the design of the Leica Standard.
Of course a manufacturer will attempt to share as many parts as possible with other models - that is production efficiency = cost reduction. The real difference is on the inside, and there you will find many more shared parts, with X series, Q series, even SL and M - many of them branded Panasonic - there are experts who called the Q "just a Panasonic in a Leica skin".
