ps ....... for those wondering why I stick with the S1R ...... this is from the S1R with the same processing copied and pasted in LR from the SL2 version (including graduated & radial filters and selective dodging and burning, temp adjustments, texture, sharpening etc) ..... although it's 28mm instead of 24mm and about 15 minutes later. I challenge anyone to find any meaningful differences not attributable to the later time and F/L ...... Even a straight processing transplant results in an identical image  .....

+1. I keep the Canon 400mm f4 DO v2 (with Sigma MC-21) on the S1R, and let SL2 take care of other focal lengths. Sensor-wise, the two bodies deliver (close to) identical results. So no practical difference. There are some differences in the electronics/menu options, with S1R being the most 'advanced' (not stating that this is an advantage over SL2).

After some month of use…
what would you describe the main pros and cons of each camera comparing SL2 with S1R?

Entirely down to features and ergonomics.

For landscape use the S1R is far better ... easier to change things in the freezing cold wearing gloves with buttons and the articulated screen/magnified view a great help. Only downside is the 60 sec exposure/metering limit requiring a remote release and some mental arithmetic for long exposures. There are more menu options than you could ever want ..... but when customised to your needs you never need to go into the main menu at all.

The SL2 is a better camera for general travel use and portraiture due to the more streamlined interface. It does however have some odd omissions ..... particularly the inability to used timed release with bracketed exposures ...and battery life is abysmal. It's a lovely camera to look at and use though .... just not ideal for landscape use.

Since the SL2 was released I have carried it as a second body with the Lumix 70-200 attached and used the S1R with the Leica 16-35 and 24-90. However using 2 completely different systems is a real nuisance so I now have a second S1R body with both set up identically. Mint, only a few months old for less than 1/3 the price of the SL2.

I'm not sure where the SL2 features in my photography from now on ..... it's a lot of money tied up in something I hardly use .... and the cash would finance a couple of nice landscape workshops in 2021 ....

May I add that for those using non-Leica lenses (or non-Leica adapters), it is not possible to manually set the focal length on SL2, whereas S1R has this option. This option is needed for IBIS to work. On SL2, with a third-party lens or with non-Leica adapters, you have to pick a Leica lens with identical/similar focal length to your non-native lens. In this case IBIS works, but now Leica's embedded lens profile (for the selected Leica lens) is applied to your non-Leica lens... Not good. Not elegant. Leica is aware of this, so one can hope for a firmware update...

There are also more options to remotely control S1R.

Presumably not everyones cup of tea... But this is an interpretation of how 13 hours of light - from late evening, throughout the night and into the following day - changes at 60 deg North, close to summer solstice. No individual alternations to the white balance (cudos to Leica!; the same would hold for Panasonic's S1R/S1/S1H), only slight changes to the exposure for a few of the images (so essentially out-of-camera dng-s), stitched in Photoshop, followed by modest post-adjustments in Lightroom. SL2 + SL24-90.

Nice image, albeit my first impression was there had been some lens / sensor malfunction 🙃🤭

I agree... It is a type of image that one needs to take some time to view (and preferably on a larger screen). Personally, I like the change in colour, and by following the Sun's shades, one can interpret how the Sun encircles the Earth (from a geocentric view ;)), and just dips under the horizon for a few hours during the night. Sunset at about 11 pm and sunrise at about 4 am.

Impression of a pink rose - background processed.  With SL 2 and Canon Macro 180 mm -which is my favourite macro lens for purposes, where a longer focal length is a need for me.
