Do you think you’d do the same if you had the SL zoom instead (when speed or wide open effects aren’t needed)?  Sorry to disrupt the image thread.

Jeff

I have both the SL 16-35 and the 35 SL APO SC.  I use the 35 in preference to the 35 end of the zoom because it's better and to obtain consistent seeing for things that I come across walking around.  I hope to see an SL 24 SC some day as well.  But I would use the zoom in preference to putting an M wide angle on an SL.  M wide angles (28, 24, 21,18) work really well for me on an M body with an external viewfinder.

Just playing around... Like many of you, I'm stuck inside for days at a time during this pandemic.  I live in the middle of NYC, so I try to go outside about once a week.  I was in a real funk photographically, feeling like I was missing so many opportunities to go out and shoot.  What I would have given for a day of walking in the woods!

But last night I decided to experiment.  And in keeping with so many aspects of our lives right now, I made do with what I had.  So for last night I used: a few sheets of printer paper, a small plexiglass end table, a $9 IKEA clip-on LED lamp, and a tripod.  Shot on an SL2 with 50mm Summicron SL.  (no macro lens here!)

They are not great, but I'm happy to have found something to get out of my rut.

Take care of yourselves, and stay safe, everyone.

David
