He looks like a fairly small sort of owl.  How big was he and how far away?  Were you hidden and waiting for him?

FYI, there is a new Hawking website coming, which  should have gone live on 14th March (2nd anniversary of his death), but under the circumstances, well...

The "Garden Pigs" send their greetings to Scott and Sheldon!  They are enjoying some Kale this rainy morning in the San Francisco Bay Area.

This was taken with the 50mm Summicron SL on an SL2.  Shot wide open at f/2 with a little focus stacking on the near pig's face to get reasonable depth.

Quite large actually.  I'm no ornithologist, but I believe the subject is a barred owl, which is not uncommon here in Eastern Massachusetts. We see them from time to time on our property. Per the Audubon society, they stand roughy 20" or half a meter tall.  My home is on a steep hillside in the midst of woods so I was able to take the shot from essentially at eye level. Distance was around a couple of dozen feet from out a top floor a window.  The post as you might imagine was heavily cropped. There was a pair of them actually, with the second one perched on the dead birch tree seen in the left background below.  Sadly the second one flew off before I could mange a shot with them not looking away from my position. I suspect they were more concerned with procuring dinner than a portrait. 😀  Here's the original to give you a better idea of the size of the bird.

I suppose in the interest of full disclosure, I should credit Momo, one of our house cats, for noticing the owls. She perked up and was staring out the window, which alerted me that something was up.

Empty Roads.

Shot with Leica SL2 with the APO-Summicron-SL 75mm at f/2.
Camera on tripod, and triggered with Leica Fotos -- if I went any further away it would lose connection.

First picture is RAW image straight from the camera, but I added a tad of vignetting.

Second picture I messed with in "Luminar 4," and added the border with "Super Borders."
