Anybody with both lenses (Summilux pre-asph and Nokton SC (or MC..)) can chime in with a quick comparison?

Nokton SC v1 has too much focus shift and flare for my tastes. Nokton SC v2 is much better from this viewpoint. At f/1.4 it shows some glow (halos around highlights) with less softness than the Summilux. It has also less flare generally so i use it like a modern Summilux so to speak. I use neither on film though. FWIW.

Thank you, I read that Nokton V2 should behave a bit better in terms of focus shift. I just ordered one.. hopefully I will "get a good copy" although on film a certain amount of focus shift is acceptable. It will be my first Voigtlander, hopefully not the last.. as the Heliar Classic 50mm is also very tempting.

I'm only slightly over 1 year in the Leica world.. and this will be only my 3rd 35mm. Being a "35 guy" I think I will stop at around 5-6. :)

Anyhow, reading the reviews, comments and photos I hope this lens will be exactly what I want for my B&W film photography.

I'd love to see a head to head wide open image comparison between this lens (35/1.4ii) and the VM 35mm 1.2iii Where can I find it?

Most likely none are exist. For obvious reason of been not really comparable.

unfortunately I don't believe they are not comparable - but you can keep believing what you believe.

Nothing to do with believe. But with willingness to learn about both lenses. I know also because I have one of those lenses. So, it is easier for me.

Do you mean both lenses at f1.4 or their respective widest apertures?

That will do, I look at the overall feel but not tiny bokeh balls.  However, I found a youtube that has VM 1.4ii vs VM 1.2ii vs summilux.  Probably that's close enough, the VM 1.2iii fixed the focus shift and added minute improvements.

you don't have them, you don't know them but you concluded that they are not comparable thru your imagination to cancel people's question.  interesting take, but please stop canceling my questions if you really have nothing to say, let people say.

I do love the Nokton.

Here it is with all its Leica like “glow” at F1.4.

Hi Lee, I have never seen so much glow from from 35/1.4 II Nokton SC images. Which version do you have and do you get this effect all the time?

I get some glow from my CV 35/1.4 SC v2 wide open but never at this level. Wondering if there is copy variance for this or if they would behave similarly under the same light condition.

I'm going to test mine because I never got that with it!  Then again, I never shot it at 1.4 outside in daylight....

Very early on in this thread there was a link to tests carried out by blogger '47 Degrees' in which he commented (with examples) "Where the Classic character really rears its head is coma: I mean, look at that! That’s awful! No excuses here, I knew what I was buying but this is a drawback no matter where I come from."

Scrolling through the rest of this lengthy I don't recall seeing any other comments about coma.  My interest in this particular lens was triggered by wondering if it might be a reasonable substitute for the newly released Summilux V1 'steel rim', which availability-wise are something like hens teeth.  Comments on the Nokton's coma, anyone?

I have to say I really like my Nokton 35 ii MC but it does show coma wide open

My SC version arrived this morning - just what I need, lightweight and tiny too.  A distinct bonus is that the Zeiss lens hood from my 35mm Biogon f2.8 fits the Nokton (and I have 43mm filters also).

Quick test at f1.4 and MFD on my M11.  Just need it to stop raining now!
