Agreed. I do not care what it looks like if it handles well. The Mamiya 7II looks terrible and is one of my favorite cameras of all time. There are things I would change on it (dark slide system, the feel of the shutter speed dial), but it got most things so right that the looks are forgiven. I am most interested in the S3 because I do think it will be a great system as a whole to work with, but it is hard to ignore what Fuji is offering, especially for the price they are offering it.

It will be interesting if an X2D (or X1Dii) emerges well before the S3, particularly if it solves some of the current issues while retaining the superb form factor (and relative price point). But one never knows with Hasselblad or Leica.

I use both the S007 and X1D and must admit that since I have the X1D the S007 is more left at home. I took the X1D 2 weeks to Cuba without any flaw and focus was much faster and better in low light than the S007.

How do you compare the color/IQ between the two? Or evaluate the lenses?

Meanwhile, in the fuji camp.

Well, we know how that ends 😉

Or at least the 1 or 2 billion people worldwide who - like me - have seen all the Marvel movies over the past 10 years will know what the outcome of the Endgame will be, wouldn’t be good for Fuji 😱

Anyway, I bet 1 by 1,5 meter prints from a good S3 file will look at least as good as the 100MP fuji.

OT: I have seen all Marvel Movies, except for Captain Marvel. It sure was a very interesting ride and wonderful to see how far digital cameras and digital postprocessing with big budgets have come. I advise all my photography friends to consider watching this with an open mind towards the story - which is also quite a lot of fun by the way - and enjoy the world-class cinematography.

Indeed, superb form factor and lovely design BTW.

As for one never knows with H and L, maybe Hasselblad will pull Leica a leg and introduce an S to XD adapter 😎

Small form factor of the XD with a nice pancake 28mm for reportage, fumble about with big S lenses on an adapter for landscape 😁

I would not mind having such an option from Hasselblad, or maybe I’m talking about a mirrorles S 😎

Big statement with an 'out of this world ugly' design....

Why integrate the grip like that? Strange.

Again from 100M to 64M, we are talking about 1.2X linear print size. Between this and S3,  I am sure many will pick S especially consider tanked price of 2nd hand S glasses.

I understand this as earliest delivery. It is of course announced, and in the Nordics Leica representatives show it in stores and exhibitions on selected events already. I guess they struggle with sensor production or optimisation, maybe even AF after all the complaints on the forum.

I would be really surprised if they only know the AF problem through forum.

I do hope they can use the time to add some fundamentally useful features such as flip LCD and no forced NR etc... if they are really paying attention for what people want for their S camera.

They are leica. What do dumb customer know about creating photography equipment masterpiece anyway.

They tell us what we need. Not the other way around.

Whats that you say about competition? There’s no competition!

It’s already well known maybe a year before hey announce the AF solution. Or at least their vendor is complaining about the high fail rate of lens arriving dead as new at their store.

No doubt. Having things print out really is a lot forgiving compare to pixel peeping on the computer.

Dumbest decision ever. They have some excuse saying that grip is intergral to the IBIS mechanism.

The Color of the X1D is in my opinion more real the greens and skin tones are wonderful.

The S007 colors are nice but need more tweaking in LR compared to the CCD S2/S006. I currently have the XCD 90mm and XCD 45mm and while they are no bokeh monsters, they feel wonderful and are lighter compared to the S system. The XCD lenses focuses faster even in low light and I have often more sharp photos compared to the S007. The only thigh which I prefer the S lenses over the XCD is bokeh and rendering.

Thanks for the reply.  I followed your thoughts until the last word, ‘rendering’.  That could mean a lot of things, real or subjective, but to me implies how nice the picture looks as a result of the lens/camera (apart from other user controlled variables).  “Other than that, how was the play, Mrs Lincoln?” :)   Could you elaborate just a bit?

Given the buzz surrounding the pending launch of the GFX100 (tomorrow), the official silence regarding the availability of the S3 is troubling me. Why don't we have any sample images yet, eight months after the announcement at Photokina 2018? No teasers, no updates at all. No new information about the efforts to fix the tethering, develop new lenses or get Profoto to launch a dedicated trigger. Is the S3 just fake news, after all? I really am surprised that Leica are not reacting when the most directly competing camera body is being launched. Either the S3 is in deep trouble or Leica's PR department is not doing its job. Now hit me with triple smilies, if you disagree with my sentiment.

I said it earlier. I guess this time with the S3 the forever mystery strategy of Leica will fail with this product line. if you produce a workhorse for professionals you can not just publish nothing about it and than come out on the market within 1 day... I really don't like this kind of mentality... for this price tag!

oh, the end game is out.

Impressive stats.

Very tight tolerance on the sensor IBIS, I think this is going to be good.

Are you sure they view themselves as GFX competitor. They think they segment the market based on price point. People willing to pay and wanting to pay for a Leica will never buy a Fujifilm, hence a different market all together.
