Just received my copy of the Summilux 35 1.4 Classic and apart from the slight disappointment that they only make this lens in Chrome/Silver rather Black that I know will linger for a while my first impressions are very favourable. I do like the size of the lens and the ergonomics work well for me on the M bodies. The first negatives are looking very good and the lens wide open does have the "character" that I was looking for in yet another 35mm.

Primarily I bought this Summilux Classic version for film use. I have it's larger sibling the Summilux 35 FLE which I am also happy with and the Summicron f2 ASPH ( 2022 ) that I will most likely sell in the near future because I have never gelled with it's ergonomics. For the Classic I will only use the vented hood, the 12486 ( OLLUX ?? ), remains in the box as I find it a bit ridiculous, too large, and it will not be used.

Really nice @BigBabyEarl, a v1/v2 brass infinity lock transition model, thats quite a rare and valuable lens!

I have a couple of 216. Both in steel rim and infinity brass lock. This batch is the most delicious of all.

A local seller has two classic Summilux 35mm Versions II. I tried one of them, two days ago. There was a demonstrator Summilux 35mm FLE, pre-II, also nicely handily available, for comparison. The Version II certainly has its charm, but, it seems too small; I preferred the ergonomics of the pre-II FLE. I may well visit the seller, again, today, with an M10, rather than the M Type 246 that I mistakenly brought with me, two days ago.

As an exercise in trying to become better-accustomed to shooting with a tiny lens, I will walk-about with my Voigtlander Color Skopar, and actively use the tab to focus with the rangefinder. My hands are “Size L,” but, my fingers are medium-length, and are slim, plus, I am left-handed, so, left-finger dexterity should not, in and of itself, be the major limitation. (I do, however, have problems with my right hand, which has aged less-gracefully, so, I have shifted to using lens barrels as my preferred “add-on camera grip” accessory.) I had bought the Color Skopar two to three years ago, but then misplaced it, until just recently, so, have not been using it.

I bought the lens about two weeks ago in the Leica Classic Store at the Leitz-Park in Wetzlar. I had some time to test the lens now, so I will start sharing photos with this post.
